It was not just the ladies who upped their style ante at the Star Magic Ball. These gentlemen went the extra mile to look good on the red carpet.
Empoy Marquez, who was still basking in the box-office and critical success of his movie Kita Kita, ditched his usually shaggy and unkempt hair for a more sleek look. The result? The comedy star looked every bit the “Millennial Pogi,” which is how fans have taken to calling him.
JC De Vera was sleek in his Paul Cabral suit. The usually reserved fellow bantered with the press, saying he was glad that he was at a ball and not in a basketball court. JC, of course, was good-naturedly referring to the scuffle that almost erupted between him and Daniel Padilla in the Star Magic Ball basketball games at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in August 2017.
Carlo Aquino, a talented actor who once left ABS-CBN to work for rival network GMA, looked handsome in his Tonichi Nocom suit, thanks to his stylist Eric Pe Benito.
Marco Gumabao, who at the time of the ball was still a Kapamilya, was fashionable in Balmain. Days before the event, the news had come out that Marco was “disinvited” from the event. The issue came after Marco left ABS-CBN and signed up with Viva Artists Management. The mixup must have been settled amicably, because Marco appeared in what could be his last Star Magic Ball as a Kapamilya.
Nash Aguas, whom fans are used to seeing in casual clothes, looked the part of the modern urban man in his Paolo Lazaro suit.
Zanjoe Marudo looked neat and snappy in his Gucci suit. But as in most of his public appearances, the tall moreno heartthrob, who has already headlined a number of Kapamilya projects, showed a bit of his shy personality, choosing to just smile for the photographers while walking the red carpet.
Arjo Atayde, who has always been experimental when it comes to fashion, chose to wear a black brocade tuxedo by Suit It Up Manila.
In keeping with his cool and young image, Tony Labrusca kept his getup stylish and up to date. The La Luna Sangre actor, in a Nat Manilag suit, went for a bow tie instead of a necktie, and no socks.
Enchong Dee, who has been admired for his fashion sense, appeared suave in his M. Barretto suit.
While his colleagues wore black and other dark hues, Matteo Guidicelli opted for a white suit from Joseph Aloysius. The triathlete and celebrity endorser was, of course, a standout among a sea of black suits and gowns.
