WEDDING DATE NOVEMBER 12, 2017 WEDDING VENUE THURLBY DOMAIN ARROWTOWN, NEW ZEALAND RECEPTION VENUE COLONEL’S HOMESTEAD WALTER PEAK FARMS QUEENSTOWN, NEW ZEALAND

Anne Curtis and Erwan Heussaff met in 2008. They became close in 2009. They went steady in 2010. And they got married in 2017. Isabelle Daza, the star of the 2016 teledrama Tubig at Langis and one of Anne’s confidantes, was responsible for setting up Anne with Erwan back in 2008.

In the November 18, 2017, episode of It’s Showtime, the ABS- CBN variety show where Anne is one of the hosts, Isabelle said there were already sparks the first time Anne and Erwan met: “I knew Anne and Erwan would match because they balance each other out. 2008 they met, and I think there was instant attraction. Pero nagpapakipot silang dalawa.”

It was during a trip to Europe in May 2009 that the attraction between Anne and Erwan became more obvious and much clearer. At the time, Anne was vacationing with some of her closest friends—Isabelle herself and her nowhusband Adrien Semblat, celebrity host Raymond Gutierrez, model Bea Soriano, and top fashion stylist Liz Uy.

In an Instagram post in December 2016, Isabelle recalled the early stages of Anne and Erwan’s relationship. She uploaded an old photo of Anne and Erwan taken in May 2009 and captioned it with this: “I knew you were meant to be when you BOTH tried to make each other jealous by picking up a random stranger lol Barcelona May 2009. #proudmatchmaker.”

In 2010, Anne let the public know she was dating again. Before meeting Erwan, she had been romantically involved with guys from showbiz. After her relationship with those guys fizzled out, she promised to keep the affairs of her heart private and well within her circle of friends.

In June 2010, Anne happily told the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP.ph), the online affiliate of YES! Magazine, that Erwan had given her a piece of jewelry as a gift for her February 17 birthday. She didn’t, however, specify what type of jewelry the gift was.

“Akin na lang ’yon, baka nakawin,” she said. “He’s a very sweet guy. Very thoughtful.”

A month later, during the press conference for her movie In Your Eyes,

A week before their New Zealand wedding, Anne and Erwan spent time in South Korea, where they saw the sights and visited some of the shoot locations of Anne’s favorite Koreanovelas.

The couple went to the Sinchon Graffiti Tunnel, the railway underpass leading to and from the Sinchon Station. K-drama fans know that the Sinchon Graffiti Tunnel is one of the places featured in the 2016-2017 hit Goblin, which is topbilled by Korean superstars Gong Yoo and Kim Go-Eun.

In her November 4 Instagram post, Anne offered a bit of funny advice: “Tip for my lady followers. When you find someone who supports the fan girl in you (yes to this level) - you’ve found yourself a keeper @erwan.”

Anne and Erwan also went to Nami Island, officially named Nwamiseom, a half-moonshaped island in Chuncheon, the capital city of Gangwon Province, South Korea. Nami Island was the shoot location of the widely successful 2002 TV drama Gyeoul Yeonga, more popularly known in these parts as Winter Sonata.

The most popular spot on the island is the Metasequoia Lane, a pathway lined with metasequoia trees. The lane has become the global symbol of Nami Island. Anne came clean with the media about the real score between her and Erwan, who at the time the public only knew as the “half-Filipino, half-French guy that Anne was dating.”

“Wala, hindi,” she said, meaning that there was still no official relationship between her and Erwan. “Kasi, kapag European, walang ‘Sinasagot na kita.’ Pero eventually, I guess it will become official. But as of now, we’re both taking our time.”

Although she left it that, things became a lot clearer for the entertainment press when Anne and Erwan were spotted together at the Bench Uncut fashion show at the Araneta Coliseum that evening.

As a friend who saw up close how the Anne-Erwan relationship had blossomed, Isabelle knows it was a relationship that was far from perfect. In the same November 18 episode of It’s Showtime, Isabelle said that the two managed to get past their problems because they made the effort to settle their differences and make the relationship work.

“I think Anne and Erwan really went through a rough patch,” Isabelle added. “Pero those times were also needed because their relationship was really tested, and their love.”

In the years that followed, Anne and Erwan succeeded in keeping their relationship private. She became busy with her showbiz career, while he kept his focus on his restaurant businesses and his blog, “The Fat Kid Inside.”

Anne and Erwan kept things so low-key that the public got to see glimpses of their relationship only through the photos and videos, mostly taken by the couple’s close friends, that eventually found their way to the social media universe.

The two traveled a lot together, made milestones together, and experienced new things together. And every time breakup rumors would crop up, Anne and Erwan would come out stronger than they were before.

In October 2014, news that Erwan had popped the big question sent the Internet abuzz. But it turned out that Bride and Breakfast, the website for wedding suppliers that had broken the news through an Instagram post, got it wrong. Bride and Breakfast immediately took down the questionable Instagram post and issued an apology to the couple, saying that one of their interns mistook a photo of Anne and Erwan sharing a cake as a form of engagement celebration.

Things got steadier for Anne and Erwan in 2015.

When his ladylove turned 30, Erwan kept his message for Anne sweet and simple. But from the way he phrased his birthday message, Erwan obviously was already hinting that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Anne.

“Happy birthday to the most caring and hardest working woman I know. Today you turned 30, a number that freaks out most people, sending them into a frenzy of ‘What have I done with my life?’ In your case you’ve accomplished so much already. You’ve kept a strong head during tough times and have arrived more fulfilled than ever. I can’t wait to conquer more countries with you, eat our way through bizarre cities, wreck ourselves at workouts, binge watch TV series’ and bounce around like idiots at different concerts. Remember you’re just 18 with 12 years of experience under your belt. Je t’aime.”

The last sentence of Erwan’s birthday message is, of course, French for “I love you.”

That same year, Anne went to France with Erwan, together with Erwan’s big sister Solenn and Solenn’s then-boyfriend Nico Bolzico. According to a PEP.ph report (November 12, 2017), they went to see “Paris, Bretagne, Névez, Quiberon, and Provence.”

In 2016, the year after that trip to France, Anne saw her close friends get married to their boyfriends one by one. In April, Georgina Wilson exchanged “I

do’s” with Arthur Burnand in England. In May, Solenn Heussaff became Mrs. Nico Bolzico in France. In September, Isabelle Daza married Adrien Semblat in Italy.

While the idea of getting married gave her the kilig feel, Anne Curtis made it clear that she was not going to follow in the footsteps of her friends. Addressing her Twitter followers who peppered her with questions, she tweeted in May 2016: “not anytime soon. I just signed a 2 year contract haha.”

In July 2016, on their sixth anniversary, Anne and Erwan traveled to Japan to attend the 20th Fuji Rock Festival. She immortalized her experience with a photo on Instagram and a heartwarming message for her “Mon Amour,” her loved one: “couldn’t imagine a better way of spending another year with you Mon amour... Albeit late but it was definitely worth the wait. Here’s to all the music festivals we will conquer across the world together. Just You & I. Awesome atmosphere. Great music and conversation. Perfect date. Je t’aime Mon amour. @erwanheussaff.”

Fans were quick to point out that Anne’s message was practically an answer to Erwan’s Instagram post in 2015. Both of their messages, although a year apart, echoed the same meaning: that they were looking forward to spending the coming years together.

Isabelle Daza revealed in the November 18 episode of It’s Showtime that she and her other married friends deliberately pushed Erwan and Anne into tying the knot: “All of us were getting married the year before and we were pressuring Erwan. Anne wasn’t sure that she wanted to get married, pero when she saw that we were all so happy, she was like, ‘Sige na nga, I wanna join.’ That’s when she started pressuring him. You know, showing him which rings to choose.”

Eventually, Erwan knew what he needed to do.

“Pero Erwan decided for himself, he’s been wanting to,” Isabelle said. “I actually helped picked the ring. Then he asked her privately. Parang they went out of town, and then, there he went on his knees—two knees pa, not just one— and asked her, like, ‘Please marry me.’”

That proposal happened in December 2016. Anne and Erwan had gone to the United States to participate in the New York marathon. After successfully completing the race, they made a side trip to Connecticut, where Erwan took Anne to a secluded park and asked for her hand in marriage.

But instead of having friends and families witness the romantic milestone, there were only two persons present at the moment of the proposal—Erwan and Anne. That beautiful and breathtaking moment was captured by @sweet.escape on video, which Erwan uploaded on his blog on December 17, 2016.

In the video, Erwan can be heard telling Anne, “I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life,” before presenting her with a gorgeous diamond ring.

The day after the video was posted (it eventually went viral), Anne Curtis confirmed the news on It’s Showtime. With tears of joy running down her face, Anne said that her engagement came as a beautiful surprise.

“Para sa akin, what a beautiful way to end 2016, as in, it’s so so beautiful. And I have no one else to thank my Mon Amour, Erwan, I love you so much. And here’s to an amazing 2017, of course, with you madlang people, my Showtime family, and my soon-to-be husband, Mr. Erwan Heussaff.”

Soon-to-be became actuality on November 12, 2017.

Anne Curtis, 32, tied the knot with her long-time boyfriend Erwan Heussaff, 30, in New Zealand last November.Three events marked the entire celebration: a pre-wedding picnic party on November 11 at the Trelawn Place Guesthouse in Queenstown; the wedding ceremony itself on November 12, at the Thurlby Domain wedding venue in Arrowtown; and a wedding reception, also on November 12, at the Colonel’s Homestead gardens at Walter Peak Farms in Queenstown.

Anne was picture-perfect in both of her dresses for this special occasion: a Vera Wang for her pre-wedding picnic and a Monique Lhuillier for her wedding day.Erwan was dashing in his Suit It Up Manila ensemble for the pre-wedding festivities and in his tailored gray suit by Mario, his favorite tailor in Paris, for the big day.
