From the EDITOR
This March issue is very much like showbiz—a nearly serendipitous mix of many unrelated things. We have here our long-time favorites: Gladys Reyes and Jean-Christophe Sommereux, who renew their vows grandly on the 25th year of togetherness that had its beginnings on the set of Mara Clara 26 years ago. We also have reports on other friends of long-standing: Goma in a solo painting exhibit after just three years with the brush and acrylic; the Megastar on her 40th Mega Tour; and our artists in a benefit dinner for the much-loved Bernardo Bernardo. This month we also say our farewells to Direk Maryo J, a man with a goodness as huge as his frame, whose wake was nothing short of a blockbuster. All the people who spoke told of what he had done for them, and they sent him off with tears and applause. As for the younger stars of showbiz, it’s great to see them saving, investing, being entrepreneurs this early: Sam Pinto works hard on her Baler boutique resort, and so does Benjamin Alves, on his handcrafted ice-cream and book café. The rawest talent in this issue, Jameson Blake, is getting indie and rom-com offers left and right, and if his seriousness and discipline are anything to go by, he is going to make it. Not a bad mix, and we haven’t said the half of it. Good reading!• As he was when YES! visited him at the family beachhouse in Palawan last year, Derek Ramsay was again the warm, welcoming host at his very own place in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, when YES!, heeding the call of fans, returned for another Derek house shoot.
The dog lover (1) filled us with little and big stories as he opened every part of a house that, he is proud to say, he oversaw from the ground up. (As in, he himself picked the tiles and everything in between.)
Derek, who seems to be getting better and better at building houses, also told Jocelyn Valle (3) his vision of a bungalow on a sprawling property for his would-be wife—it’s definitely his girlfriend Joanne (2), says he—and kids and dogs. But that’s another story.
In the here and now, Anna Pingol (4) was busy enough leading a crew of 10 to capture Derek’s personal abode in photographs by Ocs Alvarez, all for YES! readers to enjoy.
