Healthcare providers that need no introduction

Medilagos re-opens in March with exciting new developments

-

Within the Algarve private healthcare providers, Luzdoc surely needs no introduction. Since 1981, it continues under the direction of Dr Maria Alice Serrano e Silva, a well-respected, experienced Consultant in General and Family Medicine. The Luzdoc philosophy has always been to be a centre of excellence, providing tailor-made healthcare to the resident expat, tourists and the local Portuguese through 24-hour, comprehensive clinical services.

In 2001, to support Luzdoc’s progression and innovation, Dr Joanna Karamon, a South African-trained General Practitioner, joined the team, sharing its vision of a patientdoctor partnership, where patients are well informed about health issues and take an active part in achieving their optimum well-being through the guidance of their partner in health … their Family Doctor.

Dr Joanna’s strong interest and solid training in Aesthetic Medicine complements this holistic approach and is also an artistic outlet for her clinical skills in “restoring” patients to their full potential.

This vision and Luzdoc’s recognition of the growing and changing needs of their clients led to the opening, in 2014, of Medilagos, their sister clinic in Lagos, providing services in General Medicine, Aesthetic Medicine, Occupational Health and Sports Medicine. Unfortunately, due to the logistical challenges of the Covid pandemic, the services available at Medilagos were scaled back to a minimum. However, 2022 is on track and Medilagos will be re-opening in March to recover the previous services and bringing some exciting new developments.

To be able to answer to the growing demand, Dr Tânia Lima, a Family Doctor fluent in English and German, has joined the team and Dr

Mário Ferreira, Consultant in General and Family Medicine, has been increasing his work at Luzdoc and will also be working at Medilagos.

Overall, wellness and wellbeing are not just about staying healthy and looking and feeling good about yourself, both of which Medilagos takes great care of through their GP consultations and the Aesthetic Medicine services. Wellness also encompasses staying as physically active as possible, an aspect of health which is often forgotten and not fully addressed.

The Medilagos team intends to change that by offering an Integrative Rehabilitation Service, a patient-centric strategy combining personalised Physiotherapy and Therapeutic Pilates, together with an Occupational Therapy approach helping clients regain their best physical condition.

Whether suffering from an acute situation or needing to improve an existing chronic condition, Luzdoc and Medilagos are always there to help you to a healthier, happier you …
