Mission accomplished! Next? Feline furry friends

-

APAA (Association for Protection of Animals Algarve) had a seemingly impossible mission. A re-homing project. One re-homed animal is a real high-five! Two? Pretty good stuff. But three is a “wow”! Three canine poochy pals one after the other.

Remember ‘Blondie’? After a make-over, she was re-named ‘Maya’. Then came ‘Josje’ or ‘Josh’. The final hat-trick? ‘Doby’ or ‘Dobby’. Applause, please! A huge thank you to the Resident for championing our cause, Lisa Dowling, APAA’s Facebook editor, Caroline at Pet Park who played foster-mum to ‘Blondie’ and ‘Josh’, and Suzy, foster-mum to ‘Doby’.

We still have some woofs to home, so keep reading this space and Facebook!

Next? Feline furry friends! As we know, cats are different to dogs. Cats are independent creatures. That’s why a cat-flap is essential, so your ‘lodger’ can come and go as it pleases. Cats are territorial, likely to have that special space on the settee, find the warmest shelf in the laundry room, and always up for a treat! Crafty, stealthy and graceful.

Our feral cat colonies continue, thanks to Zélia Santos and her friends. But we have a few ‘specials’ on offer. These cats are used to good, loving environments, homes with a garden or patio area to bask in the sun, practice some pouncing, and are used to both human and feline company. All are healthy and have had the snip!

Previously featured and still up for grabs are ‘Sootie’, ‘Puffy’ and ‘Marmaduke’ (9-10 years old), and the newcomers, brother and sister ‘Sunshine’ and ‘Rainbow’ (3 years old). If you can take on an extra friend, then please think about one of our fabulous felines. In all these cases, they are looking for homes because their owners sadly passed away or changed personal circumstances. Think about it! No walkies, no fetching slippers … The purrfect pet!

APAA’s ‘Great Outdoors’ Pop-Up at O Tasco on March 1 was a great success. There were no pancakes but, being Carnival Day, a lot of mischief was in the air. Pixies, gnarled gnomes and assorted gardening tools, pickles, chutneys, marmalade and cookies, selected ornaments that would make perfect gifts … Great bargains!
