Algarve History Association events you won’t want to miss
DIARY || The Algarve History Association, co-founded by Lynne and Peter Booker, is organising a lecture in Lagoa, a piano concert and guided walks, both in Tavira.
In Lagoa, Peter Booker will present a lecture on ‘The Carnation Revolution’ on Tuesday, March 29, at the municipal library, at 6pm.
“We approach the 46th anniversary of this momentous event in the history of Portugal, and it is fitting that we should pay homage to the heroes of that day. In particular, we should commemorate Salgueiro Maia, the one man who is considered the purest symbol of the revolution,” says Peter.

On Sunday, April 3, a piano concert will take place at Quintinha da Música at 4pm. “We welcome back pianists Inge Lulofs and Marlies van Gent from the Netherlands at the house of our third soloist, resident Irene Ainstein, teacher at the Conservatory in Faro,” reveals Peter.
This concert is an annual occasion to celebrate two, four and six hands at the piano. Their programme includes works arranged for piano by Dvorak (Dumky piano trio op.90), Vivaldi, JS Bach, Rachmaninov, Rossini and Gershwin.

Meantime, Peter Booker will hold the second series of guided historical walks in Tavira on April 12, 13 and 14. The first of the walks covers the Walled Town; the second covers the Later Medieval Town; and the third covers the Suburb to the North of the River. Each of these tours will be limited to a maximum of 15 people, at a cost of €5 per person.
A complete walk lasts for just over 90 minutes, and each will begin at 11am.
