Carnival

Carnival is one of the main events in Madeira, with some highlights such as the Great Allegorical Parade on Saturday February 22nd. The theme for this year is ‘Signs of the Zodiac’. It involves over a thousand dancers dressed in full costumes and a few dozen allegorical floats. The streets are filled with colour, music and lot of entertainment. Another highlight is the parade happening on Tuesday 25th. Open to anyone wanting to partake, this parade reproduces in satirical style events from day-to-day life, politics, and so forth. Entertainment remains in Avenida Arriaga until March 1st.

O Carnaval é um dos principais eventos da Madeira, com alguns pontos altos como o Grande Cortejo Alegórico, no sábado, 22 de fevereiro. Este ano o tema é “Signos do Zodíaco”. Participam mais de um milhar de foliões com trajes a rigor, e uma dezenas de carros alegóricos enfeitados. As ruas enchem-se de cor, música, e muita animação. Outro ponto alto, na terça, 25, é o Cortejo Trapalhão. Livre para quem quiser participar, este cortejo reproduz, em estilo de sátira, acontecimentos do quotidiano, políticos, entre outros. A animação mantém-se pela Avenida Arriaga até dia 1 de Março.
