The celebration of wine

Madeira Wine is the theme of an annual September festival that celebrates the importance of one of this island's most historic products

Wine is one of Madeira's most important products and carries with it an international historic load. It gives a name to the island and has proven scientific attributes that make it a unique fortified wine in the World.

These reasons are more than enough to entitle Madeira wine to its own annual celebration in September, which this year happens simultaneously with the Flower Festival.

Between September 3rd–27th, festivities take over the downtowns of Funchal and Câmara de Lobos with stalls selling food, beverages and traditional products that highlight wine in Funchal, and the harvest happening live in Câmara de Lobos on September 12th.

Another edition of the Madeira Wine & Film Harvest, a film cycle with wine as its theme, is happening between September 17th and 20th.

Produced since the 15th century, Madeira wine gained international projection starting in the 17th century, having conquered world fame since then. Annually, it sells around 3.2 million litters, which represent a sales volume of 18.7 million euros.

Madeira Wine has the attribuite of ageing particularly well and that is why a supply of aged wines is so large and one of the key traits of this product.

São razões mais do que suficientes para que o vinho Madeira tenha direito a uma festa anual, em setembro, este ano com a particularidade de realizar em simultâneo com a Festa da Flor.

Entre 3 e 27 de setembro a baixa da cidade do Funchal e o Estreito de Câmara de Lobos são os dois polos da celebração. No Funchal distribuem-se as barracas de petiscos, bebidas e produtos tradicionais, em que o vinho tem destaque. No Estreito de Câmara de Lobos realizase a vindima ao vido, a 12 de setembro.

Entre 17 e 20 de setembro tem lugar mais uma edição do Madeira Wine & Film Harvest, um ciclo que exibe filmes sobre a temática do vinho.

Produzido desde o século XV o vinho Madeira ganhou projeção a partir do século XVII, conquistando a partir dessa altura fama mundial. Representa anualmente vendas de cerca de 18,7 milhões de euros são comercializados cerca de 3,2 milhões de litros.

Tem a particularidade de se conservar no tempo, pelo que a oferta de vinhos envelhecidos é grande e uma das principais particularidades desta produção.
