This summer, you’ll have another reason to visit Câmara de Lobos, as the City Council revives the street decoration project in its downtown area. The streets are decorated with motifs that are inspired by tradition, but above all that promote the reuse of materials, in a creative way.

The project started in the 2015 edition of the traditional São Pedro Festivities and has since gained notoriety, not only at a regional and national level, but also at an international level.

The purpose of decorating the streets was to enhance local culture and tradition while maintaining the signs and symbols that characterise and differentiate Câmara de Lobos from other locations. Around 300 volunteers were involved in the preparation of the adornments.

Initially, the idea of the project was to keep the decorations only during the community festivities in honour of Saint Peter, the patron saint of fishermen, in June. However, given the success and the positive impact on promoting the city, and the boost given to the local economy, the decorations will remain in place until the end of the summer.

Although this year’s São Pedro Festivities won’t be held with the same dimension as previous editions, the city will still be sprucing itself up to receive you. We look forward to your visit!

Este verão terá mais um motivo para visitar Câmara de Lobos. A Câmara Municipal volta a dinamizar o projeto de ornamentação das artérias da baixa câmara-lobense. As ruas estão decoradas com motivos que se inspiram na tradição, mas sobretudo que promovem o reaproveitamento de materiais. De forma criativa.

O projeto teve início na edição de 2015 das tradicionais Festas de São Pedro e desde então ganhou notoriedade, não só a nível regional e nacional mas também a nível internacional.

O objetivo de decorar as ruas passou pela valorização da cultura e da tradição local mantendo os sinais e símbolos que caracterizam e diferenciam Câmara de Lobos de outras localidades. No trabalho de preparação dos enfeites foram envolvidas cerca de 3 centenas de voluntários.

A ideia inicial deste projeto era manter as decorações apenas ao longo das festas alusivas em honra do padroeiro dos pescadores, em junho. Porém, dado o sucesso e o impacto positivo na promoção da cidade e o impulso dado à economia local, as decorações mantêm-se até ao fim do verão.

Apesar das Festas de São Pedro não se realizarem este ano com a mesma dimensão de edições anteriores, a cidade não se deixará de engalanar para o receber. Aguardamos a sua visita!
