Considered the island of eternal spring, Madeira celebrates the arrival of the blooming season with the Flower Festival, to be held in 2023, from April 27 to May 21. Funchal is transformed into an authentic lush garden of flowers, with lots of colour, fragrance, beauty and charm.
This is one of the island's most sought after tourist events and the one that does most justice to the diversity of Madeira's exotic flora. For visitors, it is the challenge of discovery or reliving the experience. For the locals, it is equally magical to live these weeks that greet spring with open arms.
The central area of Avenida Arriaga is decorated with carpets of flowers, the flower exhibition shows the best that is produced in Madeira. Everywhere there is colour and aroma. Children take a flower to Praça do Município to build the Wall of Hope, in the name of Peace.
The Allegoric Parade is the highlight of the celebrations. Hundreds of adults and children parade with costumes inspired by flowers and whirling choreographies.
The Flower Festival also includes the Madeira Flower Auto Parade, a parade in which participants mix with classic cars, decorated with floral arrangements, to run through the main streets of downtown Funchal.
To the delight of antique car aficionados, there is also the Madeira Classic Car Revival on the penultimate weekend of May, at Praça do Povo. An exhibition that usually counts with more than 500 participants.
Considerada a ilha da eterna primavera, a Madeira celebra a chegada da estação do reflorescimento com a Festa da Flor, a decorrer, em 2023, de 27 de abril a 21 de maio. O Funchal transforma-se num autêntico jardim exuberante de flores, com muita cor, cheiro, beleza e encanto.
Este é um dos cartazes turísticos mais procurados da ilha e o que mais faz jus à diversidade da flora exótica madeirense. Para os visitantes, é o desafio da descoberta ou de reviver a experiência. Para os locais, é igualmente mágico viver estas semanas que saúdam à primavera de braços abertos.
A placa central da Avenida Arriaga fica decorada com tapetes de flores, a exposição da flor mostra o que de melhor se produz na Madeira. Por todo o lado, há cor e aroma. As crianças levam uma flor à Praça do Município para construir o Muro da Esperança, em nome da Paz.
O Cortejo Alegórico é o momento mais alto das comemorações. Centenas de adultos e crianças desfilam com fatos inspirados nas flores e coreografias rodopiantes.
A Festa da Flor inclui, ainda, o Madeira Flower Auto Parade, um desfile em que os figurantes se misturam com carros clássicos, decorados a rigor com arranjos florais, para percorrer as principais ruas da baixa do Funchal.

Between 1885 and 1895 the Swiss engineer René Masset lived in Madeira where he was responsible for a series of port works. From his taste for photography he left a legacy with more than 200 photographs of Madeira, ceded to the Region by his granddaughter. Part of these photographs are gathered in the 12th volume of the "Madeira Collection Photographic Memories", published by the Madeira Archive and Library.
In the work it is possible to appreciate images of daily life in Madeira, monuments, places and also people. The images were collected during the 10 years that the engineer lived in the island.
The René Masset archive is part of more than 2 million photographs of Madeira from the 19th and 20th centuries, currently in the possession of the Region.
The history of photography in Madeira may be known at the Madeira Photography Museum - Vicente's Aterlier.
Entre 1885 e 1895 o engenheiro suíço René Masset viveu na Madeira,onde foi responsável por um conjunto de obras portuárias.Do gosto pela fotografia ficou um legado com mais de 200 fotografias da Madeira, cedidos por uma neta à Região.
Parte dessas fotografias estão reunidas no 12.º volume da“Coleção Madeira – Memórias fotográficas”,editado pelo Arquivo e Biblioteca da Madeira.
Na obra é possível apreciar imagens do quotidiano da Madeira,monumentos,lugares e também pessoas.Foram imagens recolhidas no período de 10 anos em que o engenheiro viveu na ilha. O arquivo René Masset faz parte dos mais de 2 milhões de fotografias da Madeira referentes aos séculos XIX e XX,atualmente na posse da Região.
