At St. Anselm restaurant in the USA there are 60 varieties of Madeira Wine and this year a new, exclusive brand has been launched in partnership with Barbeito
Drinking a glass of the unmistakeable Madeira Wine and pairing it with a good steak seems, at first glance, something unusual since, on the island, this intense nectar usually goes hand in hand with dessert or appetizers. But in the United States of America, more precisely in the capital,
Washington DC, the St. Anselm restaurant launched this year, in partnership with the historic Vinhos Barbeito company, a new Madeira, which stands out for having a taste between sweet and dry, being the ideal pairing for those who choose, for example, the New York Strip steak.
This collaboration came about, according to Ricardo Diogo, one of the main faces of Barbeito, through an "invitation" from Saint Anselm that "already knew other specific projects that we have done in the USA through our 'Historic Series Madeira' collection". Due to a "long connection of this restaurant to Madeira Wine, they thought it was a good idea to have a personalised wine/lot".
Ricardo Diogo explains that this is a wine "made with the blend of three noble grape varieties: Bual, Malmsey and Tinta Negra. It is characterised by being a style close to the Madeira exported to the USA at the beginning of the 19th century". In fact, history tells us that as far back as the 18th century the British colonies in North America were the main destination to which the island exported wine, an export that dates back to the 16th century.
