Tomás Silva and Joana Silveira are the new top players in the BPI National Amateur Rankings, the Federação Portuguesa de Golfe (FPG – Portuguese golf federation) hierarchy that designates the best Portuguese amateur players of the season. For both, this was the first time they finished a season in first place in the ranking, but the result may have been more important to Tomás Silva, as this was a goal he was pursuing for a long time. “This trophy is important for me. It shows I was the most consistent player this season. I was pursuing it for a number of years. In 2013, I was third, and in both 2014 and 2015, I was second. This year I finally managed to be the winner,” said Tomas Silva to the FPG press office. Tomás Silva hit the nail in pointing out his consistency, because it is interesting that he is national amateur number one in the very season that he was unable to win any of the FPG majors: he was second in the Peugeot National Absolute Amateur Championship, and semi finalist on the PBI/FPG Cup. But the national amateur champion did win two tournaments in the Circuito Allianz, the first, at the Penina Hotel & Golf Resort, and the fourth, at the Quinta do Vale Golf, besides triumphing at the Lisbon Cup, that counted toward the BPI National Ranking this year. As had happened with 2015 number one, Vitor Lopes (who was third this year), the 2106,5 points in international results were of paramount importance. Tomás Silva was fifth in the French International Amateur Championship, 24th in the Portuguese International Amateur Championship and 48th in the World Teams Amateur Championship/Eisenhower Trophy. He won the BPI National Ranking by a huge margin over number two, Afonso Girão, from Oporto, who aggregated 1565,5 points.
Joana Silveira e Tomás Silva são os novos nº1 do Ranking Nacional Amador BPI, a hierarquia da Federação Portuguesa de Golfe (FPG) que designa os melhores golfistas amadores portugueses ao longo da época. Para ambos, foi a primeira vez que conseguiram concluir uma época na primeira posição do Ranking Nacional BPI, mas o significado deverá ter sido maior para Tomás Silva, por ser um objetivo que perseguia há muito. “Este trofeu é importante para mim. Mostra que fui o jogador mais regular ao longo da época. Já perseguia este título há alguns anos. Em 2013 fui 3°, e tanto em 2014 como em 2015 fui 2°. Este ano consegui, finalmente, ser o vencedor”, disse Tomás Silva ao Gabinete de Imprensa da FPG. “Mostra a minha evolução de um ano para o outro e reflete o trabalho que desenvolvi ao longo do ano em vários aspetos (técnico, físico, estratégico, experiência, etc.)”, afirmou, por seu lado, Joana Silveira, que no ano passado tinha terminado na 6ª posição deste mesmo ranking. Tomás Silva fez bem em colocar o acento tónico na sua regularidade, porque é curioso que seja o nº1 nacional amador, exatamente numa temporada em que não conseguiu impor-se em nenhum dos Majors da FPG: foi 2º no Campeonato Nacional Absoluto (amador) Peugeot e semifinalista na Taça FPG/BPI. Contudo, o vice-campeão nacional amador ganhou dois torneios do Circuito Allianz, o 1º no Penina Hotel & Golf Resort e o 4º no Quinta do Vale Golf, para além de ter triunfado igualmente na Lisbon Cup, que este ano atribuiu pontos para o Ranking Nacional BPI. Tal como tinha acontecido com o nº1 de 2015, Vítor Lopes (que este ano foi 3º), foram fundamentais para os seus 2.106,5 pontos os resultados internacionais.
