RICARDO MELO GOUVEIA FINISH IN 16TH PLACE AT THE HERO INDIAN OPEN AND EQUALED HIS BEST MARK OF THE 2017/2018 SEASON ON THE EUROPEAN TOUR.
In a tournament won by the Portuguese Open champion of 2017, Englishman Matt Wallace, Ricardo Melo Gouveia (Melinho) finished the Hero Indian Open in New Delhi, tied for 16th place with five other players, which equals his best mark of the 2017/2018 season on the European Tour. In December, he achieved the same result at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open. With this result, he collected his highest monetary prize to date, € 18,016. On the par 72 DLF Golf & Country Club, the Portuguese started the final round in ninth place, at 213 (69-73-71), 3 under par as many as Englishman Aaron Rai and American Paul Peterson, but the close round of 75 dropped him seven places on the leaderboard with a total of 288 strokes (even par), much because of the four consecutive bogeys between holes 9 and 12. Heminimized the damage on the last six holes, completing the round with two birdies and four pars.

Numa prova ganha pelo campeão do Open de Portugal de 2017, o inglês Matt Wallace, Ricardo Melo Gouveia (Melinho) terminou o Hero Indian Open, em Nova Deli, empatado no 16.º lugar com mais cinco jogadores, o que iguala a sua melhor marca da época de 2017/2018 no European Tour. Em Dezembro, alcançara semelhante posição por ocasião do AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open. Com esta classificação, arrecadou o seu maior prémio monetário da época, no valor de €18.016. No Par 72 do DLF Golf & Country Club, o português tinha iniciado a última volta no nono lugar, com 213 pancadas (69-73-71), 3 abaixo do par, tantas como o inglês Aaron Rai e o norte-americano Paul Peterson, mas a fechar assinalou um 74 que o fez cair sete lugares na tabela, com um total de 288 pancadas (par), muito por culpa dos quatro bogeys consecutivos entre os buracos 9 e 12. Valeu a minimização dos danos nos últimos seis buracos, com dois birdies e quatro pares.
This was Melo Gouveia’s fourth consecutive tournament after passing through Oman, Qatar and South Africa, and now there is a four-week break until the Spanish Open (April 12-15), as the next two tournaments on the circuit are WGC-Dell Technologies (2125 March) and The Masters (5-8 April), where the Portuguese has no entry. Matt Wallace was the winner in India after beating his compatriot, Andrew Johnston, in the first hole of the play-off, with a birdie. Both finished regulation play with 277 (-11). The Indian Shubhankar Sharma, the world’s greatest revelation of 2018 so far, with two victories on the European Tour and 9th place in the WGC-Mexico Championship, fell from the top spot to 7th after completing the final round with 75. Sharma is the current leader in the Race to Dubai and already 66th on the World Golf Ranking. Ricardo Gouveia, with nine tournaments, is in 114th place with 64,095 points, while the other Portuguese player on the Tour, José-Filipe Lima, is 116th in the Race to Dubai with 31,784 points in only two tournaments. Matt Wallace foi o vencedor na Índia após bater no primeiro buraco do play-off, com um birdie 4, o compatriota Andrew Johnston – tinham terminado os 72 buracos regulamentares empatados com 277 (-11).
