The Algarve has been the favorite destination for an English college of golf for three years, always in the first months of each year and “with great success.” The Golf College in London this year sent about 60 students and a dozen teachers to the Castro Marim Resort (near the Spanish border) in early January, until the end of March. “This resort is fantastic and provides all the conditions for our work, from the accommodation to the course, driving range and study facilities,” said Paul Lyon, responsible for the group, to GOLFE, highlighting “the friendliness, collaboration and excellent professionalism” of the resort staff. This year they moved about 60 students between the ages of 16 and 18, boys and girls, who have all day filled with work programs, between 8 and 18 hours. The students alternate their tasks, always accompanied by teachers. While some are on the driving range, others practice on the putting green, others will play on the course and others study other subjects in the room that has been converted into a school. Castro Marim Golfe has made available the facilities of the old clubhouse for the young students, who stay in the resort villas, have lunch and dinner in the restaurant of the club. For three months this is their “home and school,” not leaving the property. Periodically the relatives of the students travel to the Algarve for a short visit, which does not interfere with their work programs.

The Golf College (www.thegolfcollege.com) and Castro Marim have now renewed the contract for another three years. Among the teachers integrated into this program is the well-known golf commentator and coach Dennis Pugh. Other coaches arrive for a few days of classes and then return to London. There are seven coaches present at all times. This year, and for the first time in this internship program in Southern Europe, a group of 15 older students (18 to 21 years) and more advanced, was in Islantilla (Spain), about 20 kilometers from Castro Marim, with the same objective. “We are very pleased with the results of this annual trip to Castro Marim and we want to continue,” said Paul Lyon.
