OPEN “OPENED” DOORS TO THE PORTUGUESE
Young Portuguese professionals can secure another three or four places in the framework of the European Challenge Tour next year, thanks to the Portuguese Open and the exchange of wild cards with several European countries. The Portugal PGA has guaranteed at least 30 invitations to Portuguese professionals for Challenge tournaments this season and some of the players will be able to enter directly if they have achieved good rankings at the end of the year. “Next year there is a strong possibility of having 3 or 4 full-time players on the Challenge Tour,” said Jose Correia, President of the Portugal PGA, noting that Tomás Silva and João Carlota have already had the opportunity to benefit from the exchange of wild cards and are well positioned to achieve the goal of entering the circuit. “We thank the NAU and PGF for the initiative (to organize the Open) and we believe in this project. For us it is of the utmost importance because without an Open our young players would have no chance of advancing their careers Life is one of opportunity and we must enjoy it. Those in golf know the importance of the Open for Portuguese players,” added José Correia, noting that the invitations from Europe will cover at least five Portuguese players.
Os jovens profissionais portugueses podem garantir mais três ou quatro lugares no “quadro” do European Challenge Tour do próximo ano, graças ao Open de Portugal e ao intercâmbio de wild cards com vários países europeus. A PGA Portugal garantiu pelo menos 30 convites para os profissionais portugueses em torneios do Challenge para esta época e alguns dos jogadores poderão entrar diretamente se conseguirem boas classificações até ao final do ano. “No próximo ano há forte possibilidade de ter 3 ou 4 jogadores a tempo inteiro no Challenge”, disse José Correia, presidente da PGA Portugal, salientando que Tomás Silva e João Carlota tiveram já oportunidade de beneficiar da troca de wild cards e estão bem colocados para conseguirem o objetivo de entrar no circuito. “Agradecemos à NAU e à FPG pela iniciativa (de organizar o Open) e acreditamos neste projeto. Para nós é da máxima importância pois sem o Open os nossos jovens jogadores não teriam hipótese de ir lá fora. A vida é de oportunidades e devemos aproveitar. Quem está no golfe sabe da importância deste Open para os jogadores portugueses”, acrescentou José Correia, salientando que os convites da Europa vão abranger pelo menos cinco portugueses.
The Portugal PGA organizes the Pro Golf Tour in the Algarve in the winter and in partnership with the Jamega Tour, and the Alps Tour, (a European satellite circuit) that aims to provide competition for the young professional and amateur candidates striving toward the Challenge Tour. A PGA Portugal organiza anualmente no Algarve o Pro Golfe Tour, no período de inverno e em parceria com o Jamega Tour, e tem agora também uma parceria com o Alps Tour, circuitos satélite europeus que visam proporcionar competição aos jovens profissionais e amadores candidatos ao Challenge.
