AZORES: REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Azores Regional Championship takes place alternately on each of the islands of the Azores with a golf course. The 2018 edition took place on the C and A nines at the Batalha Golf Course on the Island of S. Miguel. The Terceira GC memberer Ricardo Garcia, who turned 17 a few days before the tournament, was succeeded by Paulo Nunes (also from Terceira) as the absolute regional champion of golf, a remarkable feat achieved on the neighboring island. The two-day competition had Miguel Rodrigues from the host club as the first round leader, the only one in the seventies that day. Behind him were the U-18s Ricardo Garcia (Terceira) and Tiago Nunes (Green Golf). The second day did not go well for Miguel Rodrigues who descended to eighth place. Ricardo Garcia shot the best round of the tournament and won the event with a five stroke advantage over his father, José Luís Garcia (Terceira) who rose from fifth to second. Tiago Nunes retained the third place of the previous day, the same result that he obtained in 2017.

OCampeonato Regional Individual Absoluto dos Açores decorre alternadamente em cada uma das ilhas dos Açores com campo de golfe. A edição de 2018 realizou-se no percurso C+A do Campo de Golfe da Batalha na Ilha de S. Miguel. O terceirense Ricardo Garcia, que completou 17 anos poucos dias antes da prova, sucedeu ao também terceirense Paulo Nunes como campeão regional absoluto de golfe, um feito assinalável e conseguido na ilha vizinha. A competição de dois dias teve como primeiro líder Miguel Rodrigues do clube anfitrião, o único na casa das setenta pancadas nesse dia. Atrás dele marcavam posição os jovens sub-18 Ricardo Garcia (Terceira) e Tiago Nunes (Verde Golfe). No entanto o segundo dia não correu bem a Miguel Rodrigues que descia para oitavo. Ricardo Garcia fazia a melhor volta do torneio e vencia a prova com cinco pancadas de avanço sobre seu pai, José Luís Garcia (Terceira) que subia de quinto para segundo. Tiago Nunes conservou o terceiro lugar do dia anterior, a mesma classificação que tinha obtido em 2017.
