A RYDER CUP YEAR
Europe will host another edition of the Ryder Cup this year and Paris will be the golfing capital of the world for a week. Remember, if everything went well this edition of the Ryder Cup could be in Portugal, in Comporta (Alentejo). And if a few years ago the Portuguese bid was the winner, the Alentejo Litoral would be very different today, a world destination for quality tourism: more jobs, better access roads, luxury resorts with hotels, restaurants and golf courses, all well served by luxury beaches. The entire coastal region between Tróia and Sines would become a hub of development, a new “Algarve” near Lisbon. But it was the French bid that won, thanks to strong political and financial support. And since then the Ryder Cup project in Portugal (in which few believed) has never been mentioned or written about. At the time it involved two entities now involved in court proceedings. It has never been disclosed how much was spent on the application - lawyers, projects, travel, etc .. Nor in the case of BES / Ricardo Salgado / Comporta has this process ever been referred to. The Ryder Cup is held every two years, alternately in Europe and the USA. This year it will be in Paris and in 2022 in Rome. The 2026 edition will be back in Europe and the competition will be fierce to host the event. And why not a new Portuguese bid? The official application process has not yet opened (at the end of the year), but there is already a “war” in the fight to have the Ryder Cup, especially in Britain that has lost the last few years to Continental Europe, thanks to the Battle of Ballesteros more than thirty years ago, when he managed to take the test to Valderrama. Will there be political and financial support for a new bid on the Alentejana Coast or in the Algarve?.
AEuropa vai receber este ano mais uma edição da Ryder Cup e Paris será a capital do golfe mundial durante uma semana. Recordando, se tudo tivesse corrido bem esta edição da Ryder Cup poderia ser em Portugal, na Comporta (Alentejo). E se há alguns anos a candidatura portuguesa fosse a vencedora, o Litoral Alentejano seria hoje muito diferente e um destino mundial do turismo de qualidade - mais postos de trabalho, melhores vias de acesso, resorts de luxo com hotéis, restaurantes e campos de golfe, tudo bem servido por praias de luxo. Toda a região costeira entre Tróia e Sines iria tornar-se um polo de desenvolvimento, um novo Algarve perto de Lisboa. Mas foi a candidatura francesa a ganhar, graças ao forte apoio político e financeiro. E desde então nunca mais se falou ou escreveu do projeto Ryder Cup em Portugal (em que poucos acreditavam). Na altura envolvia duas entidades hoje envolvidas em mediáticos processos judiciais. Nunca foi divulgado quanto se gastou com a candidatura - advogados, projetos, viagens, etc.. Nem no caso BES/ Ricardo Salgado/Comporta este processo foi alguma vez referido. A Ryder Cup realiza-se de dois em dois anos, alternadamente na Europa e EUA. Este ano será em Paris e em 2022 em Roma. A edição de 2026 será de novo na Europa e a concorrência será feroz para ter a organização. E porque não uma nova candidatura portuguesa? O processo oficial de candidatura ainda não abriu (no final do ano), mas há já “guerra” na luta para ter a Ryder Cup, sobretudo na Grã-Bretanha que tem perdido a prova para a Europa Continental, graças à batalha de Ballesteros há mais de trinta anos, quando conseguiu levar a prova para Valderrama. Haverá coragem política e financeira para uma nova aposta na Costa Alentejana ou no Algarve?
