Sofia Sá of Quinta do Peru and Hugo Teixeira of Montado GC won the 32nd Portuguese Golf Federation Cup (PGF) on Ribagolfe 1, beating respectively Beatriz Themudo (Oeiras) and Vasco Alves (Porto) and in the women’s and men’s events. And if Hugo Teixeira, 20, a biomedical engineering student, who was an outsider, consumed the maximum surprise before the 18-year-old Portuguese international, Sofia Sá committed the feat of winning again, a year after at Estela Golf Club being the youngest ever, at 13 years of age, to revalidate the trophy. At the time, defeating Sara Gouveia (Oranges Club ) in the decisive game. Since the “tri” of Carla Cruz in 2006 (preceded by the “bi” of Lara Vieira in 2003) no player has defended possession of the Cup. In the men’s final, Hugo Teixeira left Vasco Alves on the 33rd hole of the match, winning 5 & 3. “I feel happy, accomplished,” he said. “I think that despite the break from tournament play that I took recently, because I was a bit unmotivated, I always felt that I had the game to reach a final or a semi-final, and it seems that in the end the game came out today, I think it was the best match I’ve ever played.” In ladies, there was a great challenge in favor of the young Cup holder only on the 38th hole, the second in the play-off. “I am very happy with myself, all the opponents were difficult, some different from the others, but all with character and claws, but with Beatriz was really a great match that will be remembered.” Winner of the Cup in 2016 and already twice national runner-up, Beatriz Themudo, 22, corroborates her opponent: “It was a great day of golf, a great match, I think we both played very well in the match. She was happier in some situations, she made some pretty important putts that I could not make. I think she got the better of it.”

E se Hugo Teixeira, de 20 anos, estudante de engenharia biomédica, e que era um ‘outsider’, consumou a surpresa máxima perante o internacional portugês de 18 anos, Sofia Sá cometeu a proeza de voltar a vencer, um ano depois de ter sido no Estela Golf Club a mais nova de sempre, com 13 anos, a revalidar o troféu. Na altura, derrotando Sara Gouveia (Clube Laranjas) no jogo decisivo. Desde o “tri” de Carla Cruz em 2006 (antecedido do “bi” de Lara Vieira em 2003) que nenhuma jogadora conseguia defender a posse da Taçaa. Na final de homens, Hugo Teixeira deixou Vasco Alves no 33.º buraco de jogo, ganhando por 5/3. “Sinto-me feliz, realizado”, disse. “Acho que apesar daquela pausa de torneios que fiz nos últimos tempos porque estava um bocado desmotivado, sempre vi que tinha jogo para chegar a uma final ou a uma meia-final, e parece que na final o jogo saiu todo, acho que foi o melhor ‘match’ que joguei.” Em senhoras, assistiu-se a um grande desafio favorável à jovem detentora da Taça apenas no 38.º buraco, o segundo do ‘play-off’. “Estou bastante contente comigo, todas as adversárias foram difíceis, umas diferentes das outras mas todas com carácter e garra, mas com a Beatriz foi realmente um grande ‘match’ que vai ficar marcado.” Vencedora da Taça em 2016 e já por duas vezes vicecampeã nacional absoluta, Beatriz Themudo, de 22 anos, corrobora a sua oponente: “Foi grande dia de golfe, um grande ‘match’, acho que estivemos as duas muito bem no jogo todo, ela foi mais feliz em algumas situações, meteu ‘putts’ bastante importantes que eu não consegui e acho que levou a melhor por causa disso.”
