TOKYO 2020 OLYMPICS
They are, for now, the two Portuguese within the provisional qualification for the men’s golf event and as such were incorporated in the Project Tokyo 2020 by the Olympic Committee of Portugal. The qualification for the golf events of the Tokyo Olympic Games began on July 1st, 2018 and extends until June 22, 2020. As in 2016, in Rio de Janeiro, the field is limited to 60 players for both men and women, there being now two Portuguese within the provisional clearance. In the Olympic Qualification Ranking, Pedro Figueiredo is 57th and Filipe Lima 60th, both meeting the requirements to receive Support for Qualification from the Portuguese Olympic Committee (IOC). If they maintain a position within the best 68, the two Portuguese will receive the sum of about 20 thousand euros per year. For the Olympic golf events, the top 15 in the world ranking are qualified (as long as there are no more than four players from the same country) and, from 16th place, each country is entitled to two players, according to their positions on the table until they reach 60. All continents will receive at least one seat and Japan, as host, is guaranteed a presence in both the men’s and women’s competition. Pedro Figueiredo and Filipe Lima, who this year are competing on the Challenge Tour trying to get promoted the European Tour for 2019, are the best ranked Portuguese in the world rankings in 291st and 363rd. In 2016, when golf returned to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Filipe Lima and Ricardo Melo Gouveia represented Portugal in the men’s competition. In Tokyo, the golf events will be played at Kasumigaseki Country Club, a private club in Saitama.

A qualificação para as provas de golfe dos Jogos Olímpicos de Tóquio começou a 1 de Julho e estende-se até 22 de junho de 2020. Como em 2016 no Rio de Janeiro, o lote de participantes é de 60 jogadores tanto para homens como para senhoras, havendo neste momento dois portugueses dentro do apuramento provisório. No Ranking de Qualificacão Oliímpica, Pedro Figueiredo é 57.o e Filipe Lima 60.o, reunindo ambos, desta forma, os requisitos para receberem Apoio à Qualificacação por parte do Comité Olímpico de Portugal (COI). Se mantiverem uma posição dentro dos melhores 68, os dois portugueses irão receber uma verba de cerca de 20 mil euros anuais. Para as provas de golfe olímpicas, qualificam-se os 15 primeiros no ranking mundial (desde que nã haja mais de quatro jogadores do mesmo país) e, a partir do 16.º lugar, cada país tem direito a dois jogadores, de acordo com as suas posições na tabela, até perfazerem 60. Todos os continentes receberão pelo menos uma vaga e o Japão, como anfitrião, tem garantido uma presença na prova masculina e feminina. Pedro Figueiredo e Filipe Lima, que este ano estão a competir no Challenge Tour tentando a promocão ao European Tour para 2019, são os portugueses melhores classificados no ranking mundial, em 291.º e 363.º.
