ARRÁBIDA 4 FRIENDS
It has been about five years since I was contacted by my friend Portas Figueiredo to go to a course that had been reopened, after having been closed for a few years, the Palmela Village, which came up with a new name, Arrábida Resort. A course that was being reborn from the “ashes” by Cadima Ribeiro. A course that was unknown to most of the players from Lisbon (myself included) and even more of the other national players. Some of the players had heard of it, but they thought it was a small 9 hole course. This course is Par 61, with 18 holes that are all different, designed by the Portuguese, Jorge Santana da Silva. Comprised of a par 5, twelve par 3’s and five par 4’s. A beautiful and challenging “Executive Course” that can be played in between two and two and a half hours. At the end of the round, that I found very interesting, and on the way home I was thinking about what I could do to share this “new” spot with my friends. The idea arose to organize a tournament for the deligation, the name was easy: Arrábida 4 Friends. The date, May 1, since it was a holiday. I started making contacts to get support and I remembered first talking to companies that were connected to the culture / gastronomy of the region. The 1st Arrábida 4 Friends received television coverage with the support of Luis Silva, the President of the Palmela Golf Club at the time. For four years I organized this event, with great pleasure and satisfaction, always with a full field, between seventy and eighty players. We had players from different areas of the country and even some from abroad. This week I received sad news, the Palmela Village, Arrábida Resort, LH Golf Academy Resort, the three designations it had, could close its doors at any time, which makes me very sad.
Faz agora cerca de cinco anos que fui contactado pelo meu amigo Portas Figueiredo para ir conhecer um campo que tinha reaberto, após ter estado fechado durante alguns anos, o Palmela Village, que surgia com um novo nome Arrábida Resort, campo que estava a renascer das “cinzas” pelas mãos de Cadima Ribeiro. Um campo que era desconhecido da maioria dos jogadores da grande Lisboa (eu incluído) e ainda mais dos restantes jogadores nacionais. Alguns dos jogadores, já tinham ouvido falar do mesmo, mas pensavam tratar-se de um campo de apenas 9 buracos. Este Campo é um Par 61, com 18 buracos e todos eles diferentes, desenhado pelo português, Jorge Santana da Silva. Composto por um par 5, doze pares 3 e cinco pares 4. Um bonito e desafiante “Executive Course” que pode ser jogado entre duas horas e duas horas e meia. No final da volta ao campo que achei muito interessante e já no caminho de casa fui pensando no que podia fazer para divulgar este “novo” campo pelos meus amigos, surgiu a ideia de organizar um torneio para a divulgação, o nome foi fácil, “Arrábida 4 Friends”, a data, 1 de Maio, pois era feriado, comecei a fazer contactos para arranjar apoios e lembrei em primeiro lugar falar com empresas que estavam ligadas à cultura/gastronomia da região. O 1º Arrábida 4 Friends teve direito a reportagem televisiva com o apoio do Luís Silva, o Presidente do Clube de Golfe de Palmela na altura. Durante quatro anos organizei com muito gosto e satisfação este evento, sempre com casas cheias, entre setenta e oitenta jogadores e tivemos jogadores de diversas zonas do país e alguns até do estrangeiro. Esta semana recebi uma triste notícia, o campo Palmela Village, Arrábida Resort, LH Golf Academy Resort, as três designações que teve, poderá fechar as suas portas a qualquer momento, o que me deixa bastante triste.
