Frenchwoman Pauline Roussin-Bouchard won the 89th Amador de Portugal International Ladies Championships in February at the Montado Hotel & Golf Resort in Palmela. She did it by the slightest margin over compatriot Lucie Malchirand. Roussin-Bouchard, 18, No. 117 on the female amateur world ranking, shot 283 (69-74-71-69), 5 under Par, against 284 of the runner-up Malchirand (70-68-75- 71), 15 years old. They are both from Marseille, but while the former is a player of the Valescure club, the latter represents the Marseille La Salette GC. “I’m very happy because the last two years were difficult for me, I had some problems with my chipping and I have not won anything since then,” said Roussin-Bouchard. “Portugal is the first tournament of the year, so it’s a good start,” added the Frenchwoman, who intends to pursue a career on the professional circuit. National runner-up Sara Gouveia was the only Portuguese player to make the cut on Friday, closed the tournament with a 77 falling from 32nd to 36th, with a total of 303 (+15), but made a positive assessment of the first time she was present on the last day of the tournament.
