At the end of February, Oporto Golf Club received this year’s Yeatman Junior Cup: the ‘young’ version of the club’s iconic competition. With 13 youngsters from the club’s schools, played in strokeplay, the big winner was Vasco Alves, with a round of 68 strokes. Three under par of the course. The second classified was Gonçalo Mata (73 strokes) and the third Henrique Oliveira Barros (80). The best girl was Beatriz Ferreira Mata (85), fifth overall, who outperformed Maria Teresa Alves (86), who was sixth. Founded in 1890 by Englishmen living in the city of Porto, Oporto is the oldest golf club in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the earliest in continental Europe. Until 1921, when the first Portuguese partner Fernando Nicolau de Almeida was admitted, the club was exclusively for Britons. Among the oldest cups are the Skeffington Cup (played for the first time in 1891), the Dockery Cup (1914), the Kendall Cup (1927), the Rabbit Box Cup (1932), the Tait Cup (1932) and the Portuguese Cup (1935).

OOporto Golf Club recebeu no final de Fevereiro a edição deste ano da Taça Yeatman Júnior: a versão ‘jovem’ da icónica competição. Com 13 jovens das escolas do clube, e jogada em strokeplay, o grande vencedor foi Vasco Alves, com uma volta de 68 pancadas. Três abaixo do par do campo. O segundo classificado foi Gonçalo Mata (73 pancadas) e o terceiro Henrique Oliveira Barros (80). A melhor rapariga foi Beatriz Ferreira Mata (85), quinta no geral, que superiorizou-se a Maria Teresa Alves (86). Fundado em 1890 por ingleses radicados na cidade do Porto, o Oporto é o mais antigo clube de golf da Península Ibérica e um dos primeiros da Europa continental. Até 1921, ano em que foi admitido o primeiro sócio português Fernando Nicolau de Almeida, o clube foi exclusivamente para britânicos. Entre as taças mais antigas, contam-se a Taça Skeffington (jogada pela primeira vez em 1891), a Taça Dockery (1914), a Taça Kendall (1927), a Taça Rabbit Box (1932), a Taça Tait (1932) e a Taça dos Portugueses (1935).
