THE WINDS OF CHANGE SENT GAROFALO TO THE WCGC WORLD FINAL

Gone with the Wind. The 21st Portuguese Final of the World Corporate Golf Challenge (WCGC) was almost gone with the wind, but the players stood still.

The Montado Hotel & Golf Resort, normally an authentic cape of good hope, providing pleasant golfing days, has turned into a true cape of storms, but even so, many of the 68 participants managed to double it with very positive scores.

Luís Filipe Araújo Pinheiro and Nuno Costa Alemão, two players who played with a good average handicap of 3.0, were the “sailors of the clubs” who managed to better master the nightmare, partly also because they are more used to the blows of the Carregueira mountains.

“We are both players of the Lisbon Sports Club and, therefore, we are used to the wind,” said Nuno Costa Alemão, that together with Luís Filipe Araújo Pinheiro led the Garofalo team to victory in the WCGC Portuguese Final and, consequently, won the right to play for Portugal in the World Final, from 11 to 15 November, at the Oitavos Dunes, in Cascais.

Garofalo, one of the sponsors of WCGC Portugal, scored 69 net points and beat the Senivis team of Carlos Tinoco and Samuel Barros by 2 points. The 3rd place belonged to the Turkish Airlines-2 formation of António Moura Portugal and Miguel Portela Morais, with 66 points. Altogether there were 34 teams and the first 13 managed to score 60 or more points, which shows the high level of play that, despite the tough conditions, was displayed. In the Portuguese Final.

The 2020 WCGC Portugal had a total of six tournaments: five qualifying stages and the Portuguese Final. The tour visited the Palmares Ocean Living & Golf in the Algarve, the Bom Sucesso Resort in Óbidos, the Estoril Golf in the Lisbon area, the Santo da Serra Golf Club in the Madeira island and the Axis Ponte de Lima in Minho.

It was its 21st edition, but the first one under the tutelage of Golftattoo Eventos. At the end of it, there was only praise from the courses, the teams, the players, the sponsors and others involved.

Enem tudo o vento levou. A 21.a Final Nacional do World Corporate Golf Challenge (WCGC) Portugal caracterizou-se por pequenos ciclones dignos do portentoso sopro do Adamastor.

O Montado Hotel & Golf Resort, normalmente um autêntico cabo da boa esperança golfística, proporcionando dias prazerosos, transformou-se num verdadeiro cabo das tormentas, mas, mesmo assim, muitos dos 68 participantes lograram dobrá-lo com resultados bem positivos.

Luís Filipe Araújo Pinheiro e Nuno Costa Alemão, dois jogadores que atuaram com um bom handicap médio de 3,0, foram os “marinheiros dos tacos” que lograram dominar melhor o pesadelo, em parte também porque estão mais habituados aos caprichos meteorológicos da Serra da Carregueira. “Somos ambos jogadores do Lisbon Sports Club e, portanto, estamos habituados ao vento”, disse Nuno Costa Alemão, que juntamente com Luís Filipe Araújo Pinheiro levou a equipa da Garofalo à vitória na Final Nacional do WCGC Portugal, conquistando o direito de representar Portugal na Final Mundial, de 11 a 15 de novembro, no Oitavos Dunes, em Cascais.

A Garofalo, uma das empresas patrocinadoras do WCGC Portugal, somou 69 pontos Net e bateu por 2 pontos a formação da Senivis, de Carlos Tinoco e Samuel Barros. O terceiro lugar foi ocupado pelo conjunto n.o2 da Turkish Airlines, com menos 3 pontos do que os campeões, constituído por António Moura Portugal e Miguel Portela Morais. Ao todo foram 34 equipas e as 13 primeiras conseguiram somar 60 ou mais pontos, o que mostra bem o elevado nível de jogo que, apesar das dificuldades, foi exibido no nesta Final. Em 2020 o WCGC Portugal foi composto por seis torneios: cinco etapas de qualificação e a Final Nacional. O circuito passou pelo Palmares Ocean Living & Golf no Algarve, Bom Sucesso Resort em Óbidos, Estoril Golf na grande Lisboa, Clube de Golf do Santo da Serra na Madeira e Axis Ponte de Lima no Minho.

Foi a 21.a edição, mas a primeira sob a organização da Golftattoo Eventos e na hora dos balanços só se ouviram elogios dos campos, equipas, jogadores, patrocinadores e demais instituições envolvidas.
