PORTUGAL OPEN AT ROYAL ÓBIDOS

The European Challenge Tour announced at the end of January the Road to Mallorca calendar for 2021, which will include 25 tournaments in 15 different countries, distributed throughout the world, including Portugal. The Portugal Open will take place from September 23 to 26, again at the magnificent Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort, and will feature € 200,000 in prize money. The Portuguese stage consolidates the strategy of the Portuguese Golf Federation to support the professional careers of national golfers, resulting in a maximum of 40 invitations available for them to assign, if the field includes 156 players. Additionally up to 6 more places will be available for elite Portuguese amateurs.

The calendar features a mix of old and new events, from April to November. This year, 20 cards will be in play for the European Tour’s 2022 season - an increase of five places compared to the last full season of the Challenge Tour in 2019. The Challenge Tour returns to the Netherlands for the first time since 2009, as well as new events in the United Kingdom and Germany make their debut on the programming of this circuit.

The 2021 season will begin with the Limpopo Championship in April, the first of three events co-sanctioned with the Sunshine Tour in South Africa, and will end almost seven months later in the Grand Final of the Challenge Tour in Mallorca in November.

All Challenge Tour events will be played under the European Tour health plan, which will continue to evolve according to the Government’s guidance in the countries where the tournaments will be played.

O Open de Portugal realizar-se-á de 23 a 26 de setembro, novamente no magnífico Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort, e contará com uma bolsa de 200 mil euros em prémios. A etapa portuguesa consolida a estratégia da Federação Portuguesa de Golfe de apoio à carreira profissional dos golfistas nacionais, fruto de um máximo de 40 convites que lhes permite atribuir, caso o field integre 156 jogadores. Para os amadores, serão ainda reservados até mais 6 lugares.

O calendário apresenta um mix de eventos antigos e novos, numa época que decorrerá de Abril a Novembro. Este ano, estarão em jogo 20 cartões para a época de 2022 do European Tour – um aumento de cinco lugares face à última época completa do Challenge Tour em 2019. O Challenge Tour regressa à Holanda pela primeira vez desde 2009, assim como novos eventos no Reino Unido e na Alemanha fazem a sua estreia na programação deste circuito. A temporada 2021 terá início com o Campeonato do Limpopo em Abril, o primeiro de três eventos co-sancionados com o Sunshine Tour na África do Sul, e terminará quase sete meses mais tarde na Grande Final do Challenge Tour em Maiorca, em Novembro.

Todos os eventos da Challenge Tour serão disputados sob a égide do plano de saúde do European Tour, que continuará a evoluir de acordo com a orientação do Governo nos países onde os torneios serão disputados.
