MID-AMATEURS WITH NEW AGE LIMITS

The European Golf Association (EGA) decided, this year, to change the age of access to the Mid-Amateur level from 30 to 25 years of age. EGA believes that most players who choose a professional career do so before the age of 25, on average at the age of 22, more specifically. This means that the majority of players aged 25 have opted for a career outside professional golf. That is, they did not opt for professionalization. However, this behavior also allows us to infer that elite amateur players thus opens up a real opportunity to compete internationally. Revising itself in this scenario, the Portuguese Golf Federation will act in accordance with the new EGA regulation. With this regulatory change, the Portuguese Golf Federation thus sees the Mid-Amateur rank extended to 270 players (241 Men and 29 Ladies), with a view to increasing its competitiveness. However, the news in the national Mid-Amateur Circuit, for the year 2021, does not stop there. As a result of the widening of the age spectrum, the PGF will award a special prize for the best classified, male and female, aged 40 or over, thus contributing to the greater attractiveness of a circuit that in 2020 was already confirmed to be a success.

Acredita a EGA que a maioria dos jogadores que optam por uma carreira profissional o fazem antes dos 25 anos, em média aos 22 anos, mais concretamente. Isto significa que a maioria dos jogadores com 25 anos de idade optaram por uma carreira fora do golfe profissional. Ou seja, não optaram pela profissionalização. Contudo, este comportamento permite também inferir que aos jogadores amadores de elite se abre assim uma real oportunidade de competir a nível internacional. Revendo-se neste cenário, a Federação Portuguesa de Golfe agirá em conformidade com o novo regulamento EGA. Com esta alteração regulamentar, a Federação Portuguesa de Golfe vê assim alargado o escalão de Mid-Amateur em 270 jogadores (241 Homens e 29 Senhoras), antevendo-se uma maior competitividade no mesmo. Porém, as novidades no Circuito Mid-Amateur nacional, para o ano de 2021, não se ficam por aqui. Fruto do alargamento do espectro etário, a FPG atribuirá um prémio especial para o melhor classificado, masculino e feminino, com 40 ou mais anos de idade, contribuindo desta forma para uma maior atratividade de um circuito que já em 2020 tinha confirmado ser um sucesso.
