The Portuguese golfer Pedro Figueiredo, member of the European Tour, won the first tournament of the Circuit of the Portuguese Golf Federation (FPG), which took place at the Amendoeira Golf Resort, in Alcantarilha, Silves, in April. The Lisbon professional scored 133 strokes, 11 under par 72 of the O’Connor Jnr. Course, and won the first of the five tournaments that make up the FPG Circuit with two ‘shots’ of advantage over Ricardo Melo Gouveia, second place, a also professional.
After delivering a first card with 68 strokes, one more than Vítor Lopes, leader at the end of the opening round, Pedro Figueiredo completed the second 18 holes with 65 shots, seven under par, leading the best display of the round, on a day in which the professional Tiago Cruz made a ‘hole-in-one’ at the 13th hole.
“The two rounds went quite well. Doing 11 under 36 holes is very positive. It is true that the course is relatively accessible, with large ‘fairways’ and ‘greens’, which ends up helping a little. But, in any case, it is always necessary to play well to make this result,” said Figueiredo, admitting, “it is always important to win, even though it is a national tournament.”
In a renewed circuit that, this year, will bring together all national golfers in the five tournaments that will take place throughout the season, Pedro Lencart won the competition aimed at amateurs, with 138 strokes (70 + 68), six under par, and match professional Ricardo Santos’ score (70 + 68), both in third place on the ‘leader board.’

Após entregar um primeiro cartão com 68 pancadas, uma a mais que Vítor Lopes, líder ao final da ronda inaugural, Pedro Figueiredo completou os segundos 18 buracos com 65 ‘shots’, sete abaixo do Par, protagonizando a melhor exibição da jornada, num dia em que o profissional Tiago Cruz fez um ‘hole-in-one’ no buraco 13.
“As duas voltas correram bastante bem. Fazer 11 abaixo em 36 buracos é muito positivo. É verdade que o campo é relativamente acessível, com ‘fairways’ e ‘greens’ grandes, o que acaba por ajudar um bocadinho. Mas, de qualquer forma, é sempre preciso jogar bem para fazer este resultado”, afirmou Figueiredo, admitindo “ser sempre importante vencer, mesmo sendo um torneio nacional”.
Num circuito renovado e que, este ano, juntará todos os golfistas nacionais nos cinco torneios que terão lugar ao longo da temporada, Pedro Lencart ganhou a competição destinada aos amadores, ao somar 138 pancadas (70+68), seis abaixo do Par, e igualar o ‘score’ do profissional Ricardo Santos (70+68), ambos no terceiro lugar do ‘leaderboard’.

While professional and national champion Leonor Bessa was in ninth place in the mixed classification, when she ended the 36 holes with 142 shots (70 + 72), two under par. Amateur Leonor Medeiros, from Quinta do Peru, won the female tournament, with a total of 145 strokes (73 + 72), one over par.
“Foi um excelente torneio para iniciar a época. Senti-me bem em campo e tive 2 voltas consistentes, com poucos erros, onde fiz apenas 1 bogey. Pessoalmente, adoro este novo formato em que jogamos também com os profissionais. O torneio torna-se logo mais competitivo e acho que isso é um passo importante para a evolução dos nossos jogadores.”
Enquanto a profissional e campeã nacional Leonor Bessa ficou em nono lugar na classificação mista, ao encerrar os 36 buracos com 142 ‘shots’ (70+72), dois abaixo do Par, a amadora Leonor Medeiros, da Quinta do Peru, venceu a prova feminina, com um total de 145 pancadas (73+72), uma acima do Par.
