PALMARES OPEN II: FIRST ONE FOR GIRÃO

João Girão achieved his first victory as a professional golfer, at Palmares Open II, the second event of Swing 2 of the PT Tour, which took place in three rounds on the Alvor + Lagos courses (par 72) of Palmares Ocean Living & Spa, in Lagos.

The 24-year-old Portuguese, who turned pro in November 2021, closed with the best round of the day, 65 strokes, with nine birdies and two bogeys. It was also his best round in the competition, where he improved every day (he delivered cards of 69 and 67 strokes on the first two days of the event). Second place went to Englishman Rhys Thompson and South Korean amateur Jeong Hyun Lee, both with an aggregate of 203 (13 strokes under par, 2 strokes back). “I’m obviously happy, after all, it was my first victory as a professional,” said the Portuguese winner. “It was a good tournament, I felt good from the tee to the green. And I managed to take advantage of the opportunities, I think that’s what justified the good result.” The PT Tour is the only international circuit for professional and amateur golfers of high competition to take place in Portugal. The Palmares Open II had the participation of 88 players.”

João Girão obteve a primeira vitória como golfista profissional, por ocasião do Palmares Open II, segunda prova do Swing 2 do PT Tour, que decorreu em três voltas nos percursos Alvor + Lagos (Par 72) do Palmares Ocean Living & Spa, em Lagos.

O português de 24 anos, profissional apenas desde Novembro do ano passado, fechou com a melhor volta do dia, 65 pancadas, com nove ‘birdies’ e dois ‘bogeys’. Foi também a sua melhor volta na competição, onde todos os dias foi melhorando (entregou cartões de 69 e 67 pancadas nos dois primeiros dias da prova). A segunda posição coube ao inglês Rhys Thompson e à amadora sul-coreana Jeong Hyun Lee, ambos com um agregado de 203 (13 pancadas abaixo do Par).

“Estou obviamente contente, afinal, foi a minha primeira vitória como profissional”, disse o vencedor português. “Foi um bom torneio, senti-me bem do tee ao green. E consegui aproveitar as oportunidades, acho que foi isso que justificou o bom resultado.”

O PT Tour é o único circuito internacional para golfistas profissionais e amadores de alta competição a ter lugar em Portugal. O Palmares Open II contou a participação de 88 jogadores.
