Copa S.M. La Reina

Sofia Sá raised Portugal’s name very high at the International Amateur Championship of Spain for Women, which awards the Copa S.M. La Reyna, one of the most coveted trophies in European amateur golf.

The 17-year-old national team golfer reached the semi-finals, that is, she was in the top four of the competition that took place at the Real Club Pineda de Sevilla, in Seville. The Portuguese absolute national champion beat in the quarter-finals the 29th in the female amateur world ranking, the German Paula Schulz-Hanssen, 5 & 4 (five holes ahead and four holes to play). In the semi-finals, she fell to another German, Charlotte Back, 147th in the world, 3 & 1. The Portuguese team in Seville, which also featured Ana da Costa Rodrigues, was guided by Assistant National Coach Hugo Pinto. Ana da Costa Rodrigues reached the round of 16, beating Spanish Claudia Lara Miravitlles, winner of the first round of the competition, in the first round of match play. The Cup was won by the Spanish Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio.

Sofia Sá elevou bem alto o nome de Portugal no Campeonato Internacional Amador de Espanha para Senhoras, que atribui a Copa S.M. La Reyna, um dos mais ambicionados troféus do golfe europeu amador. A golfista da seleção nacional, de 17 anos, chegou até às meias-finais, ou seja, ficou nas quatro melhores da prova que decorre no Real Club Pineda de Sevilla, em Sevilha. A campeã nacional absoluta bateu nos quartos-de-final a 29.ª do ranking mundial amador feminino, a alemã Paula Schulz-Hanssen, por 5 & 4 (cinco buracos de vantagem e quatro para jogar). Nas meias-finais, caiu perante outra germânica, Charlotte Back, 147.º mundial, por 3 & 1. A seleção portuguesa em Sevilha, que contou também com Ana da Costa Rodrigues, foi orientada pelo Treinador Nacional Adjunto Hugo Pinto. Ana da Costa Rodrigues chegou aos 16 avos-de-final, batendo na primeira eliminatória de match play a espanhola Claudia Lara Miravitlles, vencedora da primeira fase da competição.

A Copa foi conquistada pela espanhola Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio.
