INTERNACIONAL AMADOR DE PORTUGAL
After two consecutive years finishing in the top 10, Francesca Fiorellini, just 16 years old, won the 92nd International Amateur Portuguese Women’s Championship this year, at the Montado Hotel & Golf Resort, in Palmela.
Leaving for the last round to lead with two strokes ahead of the French Maylis Lamoure, it was between both them the title was decided. The Italian prevailed with the final result of 72 (par), against the 73 (+1) of the Frenchwoman, who was looking to succeed her compatriot Lucie Malchirand on the list of winners.
“It’s incredible to win the first tournament of the year, I’m very honored to have won the Internacional de Portugal,” said Francesca Fiorellini, who, despite her young age, was in the 57th position on the amateur world ranking at the start of the tournament.
Sofia Sá, the only Portuguese who made the cut to 54 holes, took the lead after two rounds, but would end up leaving the top 10, finishing in a tie for 12th place.
Depois de dois anos consecutivos a terminar entre as 10 primeiras, Francesca Fiorellini, de apenas 16 anos, saiu vencedora este ano do 92.º Campeonato Internacional Amador de Portugal Feminino, no Montado Hotel & Golf Resort, em Palmela.
Partindo para a última volta a liderar com duas pancadas vantagem sobre a francesa Maylis Lamoure, foi entre ambas que o título se decidiu. A italiana impôs-se com o resultado final de 72 (par), face ao 73 (+1) da gaulesa, que procurava suceder na lista das vencedoras à sua compatriota Lucie Malchirand.
“É incrível ganhar o primeiro torneio do ano, estou muito honrada por ter vencido o Internacional de Portugal”, disse Francesca Fiorellini, que, apesar da sua jovem idade, ocupava à entrada para o torneio a 57.ª posição no ranking mundial amador.
Sofia Sá, a única portuguesa que passou o cut aos 54 buracos, chegou a coliderar após duas voltas, mas acabaria por sair do top 10, igualando o 12.º lugar da edição.
