Lisbon Sports Club hosted, at the end of February, another edition of the Coronation Cup. One of the club’s classic competitions, it dates back to 1937 when club members came together to offer the trophy to honor that year’s coronation of King George VI.

The tournament is therefore always special, and this year it was even more so. The team that won the National Interclub Championship in 1974 gathered to play the Coronation Cup, 48 years after that victory. Four of the six players got back together and, mostly, got back to playing together. Peter Healy, who won the Coronation Cup in 1972, purposely traveled from Ireland, playing with Eduardo Vieira, Pedro Caupers and Jorginho Oliveira da Silva.

It was in this special environment that Virgílio Preto won this year’s edition of the Coronation Cup with 39 points. In second place and just one point away was Luís Mariano and in Gross, the best was Luís Costa Macedo with 30 points.

OLisbon Sports Club recebeu no final de fevereiro mais uma edição da Coronation Cup. Uma das competições clássicas do clube, que remonta a 1937 quando os sócios do clube se juntaram para oferecer o troféu para homenagear a coroação desse ano do Rei Jorge VI. O torneio é por isso sempre especial, e este ano foi ainda mais. A equipa que venceu o Campeonato Nacional Interclubes em 1974, reuniu-se para jogar a Coronation Cup, 48 anos passados sobre essa vitória.

Quatro dos seis jogadores voltaram a estar juntos e, principalmente, voltaram a jogar juntos. Peter Healy, que venceu a Coronation Cup em 1972, viajou proposita damente da Irlanda, jogando com Eduardo Vieira, Pedro Caupers e Jorginho Oliveira da Silva. Foi neste ambiente especial que Virgílio Preto venceu a edição deste ano da Coronation Cup com 39 pontos. Em segundo lugar e apenas a um ponto ficou Luís Mariano e em gross, o melhor foi Luís Costa Macedo com 30 pontos.
