Located in a back road close to the Lagos’ entrance, restaurant Atalaia is a favourite amongst locals thanks to its wide range of traditiona­l Portuguese dishes at accessible prices. Usually very busy during lunch time — there is a daily lunch menu for €8.5 —, the restaurant is known for its grilled fresh fish, especially the grilled sea bass, and many steak options, washed down with reasonably priced wines.

Located close to the Lagos railway station, A Tasca do Kiko serves beautiful fresh fish and traditiona­l Portuguese tapas in a contempora­ry setting, amidst the Marina shipyard. With a modern décor that still showcases a few traditiona­l details, such as the hydraulic tile wall, this restaurant offers a combinatio­n of meat and fish dishes along with a wide range of tapas, including seared tuna, prawns and gorgeous canned sardines. The wine list is comprehens­ive but there is also a great choice of ice-cold beers.
