Pestana to build three more hotels in Madeira
Inspired by the book 'The Old Man and the Sea', by Ernest Hemingway, the Pestana Fisherman Village hotel was inaugurated last week, in the centre of Câmara de Lobos, in the presence of the group's founder, Dionísio Pestana, and members of the Regional Government.
The new hotel of the Pestana Group, with 42 rooms and a four-star rating, resulted from the rehabilitation of the 'Torre Bela' building, owned by the Câmara de Lobos municipality, which has been operating under the concession for 30 years, where, among other services, the school delegation and the Parish Council were based.
In addition to the second hotel in Câmara de Lobos, inaugurated yesterday, the group is preparing three more investments in the Region. This is the case of Pestana Dunas, which construction will soon start in Porto Santo, of a unit in the project phase that will be built in Praia Formosa, between Doca do Cavacas and Pestana Bay, and of Madeira Aqua Residence that will refurbish the old Madeira Palácio .
Miguel Albuquerque recalled that the health crisis caused by the covid-19 pandemic had “devastating consequences” on the economy of Madeira, namely in terms of tourism, which is the “main industry” of the Region, but he stressed that the archipelago has now entered a phase of resumes.
Pedro Coelho, Mayor of Câmara de Lobos, highlighted the recovery of assets made by the Pestana Group at zero cost for the municipality and its role in creating wealth and employment.
