More and more foreigners are betting on Portuguese real estate, namely luxury homes, and the Region is in the top five preferred areas of the country to invest.

The climate, safety and advantages of Gold Visas are some of the arguments that justify this demand, as JM has already announced based on testimonie­s from several real estate agents. Now, it is the turn of the Idealista real estate portal to confirm the trend.

According to the website, the Spaniards (11.7%) are the ones that carry out the most property surveys of this type, followed by the English (11.6%), North Americans (9.7%), French (9.5 %) and Germans (8.9%).

Lisbon attracts most of the attention of foreigners interested in a luxury home in Portugal, with 40% of internatio­nal demand for high-end properties concentrat­ed in Lisbon.

The main interested in this luxury product are the Spanish (13.0%), North Americans (11.1%), English (10.8%), Brazilian (10.4%) and French (7.1%) .

In the ranking of the six districts with the most interest for high standing buyers comes the district of Faro, with 28% of the luxury surveys carried out, and Setúbal, with 8% of the surveys.

The Porto district ranks fourth with 6% of luxury surveys carried out by foreigners, especially Spaniards, Brazilians, French and North Americans.

Madeira appears in this list in fifth place, concentrat­ing 4% of luxury searches carried out in Portugal by foreigners. The English (21.1%) and Germans (20.9%) are the most active in the search for the Region, followed by North Americans (5.4%), Swiss (4.6%) and French (4.3%).

In sixth place in the ranking comes the district of Braga with 2%. The nationalit­ies that showed the most interest in this district were, according to the Idealista portal, the French (25.7%), followed by Brazilians (12.0%), Swiss (10.5%), Spanish (10.0%) and English (8.3%).
