Tourist injured

-

Last week, a foreign citizen suffered a massive fall while trying to jump from the balcony of a room at the Sírius hotel, in Funchal, to an exterior structure that serves as the ceiling of a storage room for the restaurant located on the ground floor of the building.

The girl tried to go unnoticed by the hotel staff, as at that time it was already forbidden to circulate on public roads due to the measures to prevent the spread of covid-19. According to a hospital source, the 23-year-old tourist, who was with a friend in the hotel room, would be sneaking off to meet a man she met that night, for a romantic date, jumping from the bedroom balcony to pass over this structure outside the hotel located on Rua das Hortas, thinking that this would lead to the road.

The structure's roof collapsed and the tourist, of Polish nationality, ended up falling from a height of more than five meters, ending up being seriously injured inside an area of the restaurant.

In order for her to be rescued, the owner of the restaurant had to go to the scene to open the doors to allow the rescue team to rescue the victim.

She was rescued by a team from the Portuguese Red Cross, having been transported by ambulance to the emergency room, where she was placed under observation.

The Public Security Police was called with the purpose of locating the restaurant owner, in order to allow the rescue teams to have access to the place.
