Iberia return brings extra 13,200 seats
More than one hundred point-to-point connections (132) and an availability of 13,200 seats for the Region. This is what is expected of the return of the Iberia operation to the Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport of Madeira.
The Spanish airline has been back in the archipelago since the beginning of the month with direct flights from Madrid, in an operation carried out in partnership with ‘Air Nostrum’ and using a 100-seat Bombardier CRJ1000 plane.
For now, Iberia has three weekly flights, on Monday, Friday and Sunday. In July, there will be five flights and in August there will be daily connections, on the Madrid-funchal-madrid route.
Next month, from July 16, Barcelona and Bilbao will also be added to the connections provided by the carrier, with weekly flights.
From Catalonia, flights are scheduled to be weekly, on Saturdays, until September 10. Flights from the capital of Biscay will run twice a week, on Tuesday and Saturday, in the same period.
The company returns to three weekly flights in September, that will continue into the IATA winter 20222023.
“The reopening of direct flights from Spain, a market that is traditionally relevant to the Madeira destination, and which had already brought good indicators when it was present this year at the Madrid tourism fair, Fitur, is very important for the Region”, says the Regional Secretary of Tourism and Culture, Eduardo Jesus.
In 2021, the Spanish market was responsible for 22,200 guests and 106,000 overnight stays in tourist accommodation, asserting itself as the seventh best source of travellers to Madeira.
