Under €10 Panda Cantina BAIXA

Panda Cantina, a discreet door on Rua da Prata, is a piece of China's Sichuan region set in a Lisbon street. There’s a simple menu and the Chinese ramen, prepared by Yin, is their main focus. Homemade noodles, in the form of udon, are in any of the three options available, whether it be with pork, beef or tofu (€ 9.30 ). The spicy level is up to you, from 0 to 5, with 5 being something that very few can handle. àRua da Prata, 252. Mon-Sun midday-11pm.

Tambarina SÃO BENTO

Traditional Cape Verdean food is served here, especially the cachupa – there are three options available: meat, fish or the special one, in half doses (€8.5), or enough for two people (€17). There is also a chicken muamba, cassava with beef and a coconut dessert with condensed milk. àRua do Poço dos Negros, 94. +351 967 181 400. Mon-Sat 11am-2am, Sun 5pm-2am.

Under €20 Dallas CAIS DO SODRÉ

Dallas draws a lot of inspiration from Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction: from the red booths and neon signs all the way to the ketchup and mustard containers. There are ten hamburgers on the menu, including vegan options, with grilled brioche bread. Try the Dallas Classic Cheeseburger with 165gr beef, cheddar, lettuce, chopped onions, pickles and Dallas sauce (€8.90). For the complete #foodporn experience, there are nachos, with spicy chorizo and melted cheddar, and milkshakes. → Travessa dos Remolares, 41. +351 211 521 370. Mon-Sun midday11.30pm.

Kaffeehaus CHIADO

It opened in Chiado when modern cafes were still a mirage in Lisbon and has, little by little, conquered its place amongst the city's great restaurants.

Yes, restaurants. First with brunch, then with their breaded steaks, cakes, hamburgers, sausages until they got where they are today, with a menu full of Austrian dishes with unpronounceable names and guaranteed quality. Yes, it's great for coffee and a croissant in the morning. But what about dinner? This is Kaffeehaus' golden hour, trust us. àRua Anchieta, 3. +351 210

956 828. Mon 11.30am-8pm,Tue-Fri 11.30am-11pm, Sat 10.30am-11pm, Sun 10.30am-8pm.

Under €30 Ruvida ALCÂNTARA

At Ruvida – meaning “rough” in italian – the day starts with a nice chunk of dough, and everything is handmade. It is an atypical cuisine that seeks to bring ultra-traditional recipes, only available in certain areas of Italy, on a journey to taste the whole country. It started off by betting on the cuisine from the North of Italy, but seasonality is taken very seriously here. àPraça da Armada, 17. +351 213 950 977. Tue-Thu 7pm-10.45pm, Fri 12.30pm-2.30pm & 7pm-10.45pm, Sat 12.30pm-3pm & 7pm-10.45pm, Sun 12.30pm-3pm.

O Frade BELÉM

O Frade’s specialty is Portuguese traditional food, with recipes made from a mixture that arrives from Trás-os-Montes to the Algarve. The menu has mostly dishes to share and Portuguese tapas. There is coentrada de coelho (rabbit stew with coriander leaves), Alentejo chorizo sausage or estupeta de atum.

But scrambled eggs with tubers, rojões, black pork loin, or roasted peppers are also worth the try. As for the larger dishes, definitely go for the duck rice. àCalçada da Ajuda, 14. +351 939 482 939. Mon-Sun 12.30pm-3pm & 7.30pm-11pm.

Boteco da Dri CAIS DO SODRÉ

This Rio-style bar by the river near Cais do Sodré railway station is a trip to Brazil without leaving Lisbon. There is traditional black bean stew (including a vegan version), cheese bread, manioc, and chocolate balls for dessert, all of which can naturally be washed down with caipirinhas ou caipivodkas (€6.50) made with lime, passion fruit, strawberry, pineapple or lychee. From Wednesday to Sunday be prepared for a lot of excitement with samba or live traditional Brazilian music. Indoors or outdoors, the important thing is to have fun and dance. àCais do Gás, 19. Wed and Thu 6pm-midnight, Fri 6pm-2am, Sat 4pm-2am, Sun 4pm-midnight.

Ajitama Ramen Bistro MARQUÊS DE POMBAL

If you are a ramen fan, this is the place to go. It has a very complete menu, with starters and several different ramens, showcased from the least to the most intense, a scale that has nothing to do with spiciness but rather with the flavour of the broth. We recommend you try one of the house cocktails and sit by the counter, watching the bowls being filled and playing with one of the small arcade machines available. àAvenida Duque de Loulé, 36. +351 967 761 997. Mon-Sun midday-midnight.

Under €40 Boa-Bao CHIADO

Boa-Bao offers comforting bowls of thai rice, noodle soups with shrimp and chicken, sichuan with egg noodles and duck, or even egg and pork dumplings. Belgian chef Chris Gielen travelled across Asia and brought to Chiado traditional recipes from Thailand, Vietnam,

Prado SÉ

António Galapito grew a prairie (prado) by Sé. The restaurant focuses on cattle and organic vegetables, only using ingredients that producers tell him are good, so there is no fixed menu. It was the only restaurant that was awarded five stars by Time Out food critics in 2018. Something changes every day, whether that is the cuts of meat or the varieties of fish. àTravessa das

Pedras Negras, 2. +351 210 534 649. TueWed 7pm-10.30pm, Thu-Sat midday-3pm & 7pm-10.30pm.

MonSun midday-midnight.

Praia no Parque PARQUE

By now, the nights at Praia no Parque need no introductions, but just to remind the more forgetful or absent-minded among us that here you can go for dinner and an evening out without moving. Anyone going for dinner at the restaurant or Japanese bar from Thursday to Saturday will probably end up dancing glass in hand. And while we’re on the subject of drinks, you can order one of the many classic or signature cocktails, like a Fresh Foam, with Grey Goose, Saint Germain, lemon and cranberry juice and other ingredients. On these days, the entertainment is provided by DJs or live music until three in the morning. If you just want to dance without dinner, there’s a card (no set amount). Guests are selected at the door, due to the venue’s great popularity. àAlameda Cardeal Cerejeira (Parque Eduardo VII). Sun-Wed 12.30pm-midnight, Thu 12.30pm-2am, FriSat 12.30pm-3am.

Over €50 Essencial BAIRRO ALTO

In chef André Lança Cordeiro’s kitchen, there is a delicate minimalism that teaches us an unavoidable truth: less is more. At Essencial, in the middle of Bairro Alto, the dishes come with a French inspiration, apparently very simple but full of technique and flavour. Such is the case of their puff pastry with foie and chanterelles for starters, the oven-baked rice with prawns for two, where the juice from the head intensifies the flavour, or the wonderful French desserts Paris-Brest or mille feuille.à Rua da Rosa, 176. +351 211 573 713. Tue-Sat 7pm-11pm.

100 Maneiras BAIRRO ALTO

100 Maneiras, by Ljubomir Stanisic, is an exciting, rockinfused journey, not only around the world, but also through the chef ’s life. The Michelin star restaurant, is a blend of familiarity and casual sophistication. There are three tasting menus available, between €130 and €160, plus drinks: The Story (€160), that follows the chef ’s life journey through 17 moments; The

Short Story (€130), a condensed version of the former, with 11 moments; and Echoes of the 100 (€135), a vegetarian love letter, also with 17 moments, that showcases the chef ’s ecological concerns. All of them with a wine pairing option that ranges from €90 to €115, depending on the menu. → Rua do Teixeira, 39. +351 910 918 181. Tue-Sat 7pm-1am (kitchen stops at 10.30pm).
