Time Out Lisbon for Visitors

Four unmissable festivals this summer

Summer is festival time. We have chosen four unmissable events in and around Lisbon.

-

NOS Alive

At an event the size of NOS Alive, there’s always loads of music to choose from. To suit every taste. This year’s line-up includes names like Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, Lil Nas X, IDLES, Queens of the Stone Age, Sam Smith, Machine Gun Kelly, Angel Olsen and many others.

→ Passeio Marítimo de Algés (Oeiras). 6-8 July. €74-€179.

Super Bock Super Rock

This momentous Portuguese festival is coming back to Meco this year. The previous editions at Herdade do Cabeço da Flauta are best forgotten, but the organisers have promised that the problems and shortcomings of the facilities and amenities will all be solved this year. Names like

The 1975, Steve Lacy, The Offspring and Wu-Tang Clan make us feel like checking that the worst is over.à Herdade do Cabeço da Flauta (Sesimbra). 13-15 July. €65-€200.

MEO Sudoeste

This is one of the most curious migratory phenomena in Portugal in summer. Since the mid 1990s, at the beginning of August, flocks of adolescents have flown the nest and headed for Zambujeira do Mar for the MEO Sudoeste festival. Even though the line-up falls a little short, David Guetta, Metro Boomin, Niall Horan and Farruko are some of the big names signed up for the 25th edition.à Herdade da Casa Branca (Zambujeira do Mar). 5-11 August. €60-€210.

MEO Kalorama

The first edition of the last major European summer festival was a resounding success. And judging from the names that have already confirmed the second one will be living up to the first. Arcade Fire, Aphex Twin, Florence + The Machine, Siouxsie, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Belle & Sebastian, Lil Yachty and Ethel Cain are just some of the attractions.à Parque da Bela Vista. 31 August - 2 September. €145.
