Timeline and Milestones
The School is founded by Rev. Bishop Charles B. Colmore, Head of the Episcopalian West Indian Diocese. With five children of his own, he opens Saint John’s Episcopalian School in honor of the patron saint of his adopted city.
1930 The Episcopal Church turns over the school and its property to the parents of the students in attendance.
1955 High School building opens featuring an auditorium, library, and classrooms to accommodate classes up to the 12th grade.
1957 The first High School graduating class receives diplomas.
1987 The U.S. Department of Education awards the “Excellence in Education” to Saint John’s School. The School continues to be the only institution in Puerto Rico to have received this distinction.
1980's & 1990's Nydia Caro, Ednita Nazario, and Danny Rivera – all Saint John’s School parents – perform at milestone events. Secondary and Elementary School Libraries are renovated and equipped with 21st century resources.
1938 Saint John’s registers as a non-profit corporation. A sevenparent Board of Directors is established.
1958 Saint John’s School receives its first Middle States accreditation.
1965 The School celebrates its first 50 years, with a graduating class of 25 students.
2002 Uniforms are required for all grade levels.
2006 Renovation of Sports Complex is completed.
2008 Pre-Pre Kinder program added. The first concrete building is constructed on campus.
1970's Local students outnumber mainland expats for the first time. The six day academic cycle is introduced.
1984 Construction of the Gym Complex is completed. Saint John’s adopts and implements the School Enrichment Model.
