Qatar receives total foreign investment­s of QR676.4bn in Q1

Qatar received total foreign investment­s of QR676.4bn; while its total outward investment­s were QR402.5bn at the end of the first quarter (Q1) ended June 30, 2018, according to official estimates. Of the QR676.4bn total foreign investment­s, foreign direct investment­s (FDI) amounted to QR123.1bn or 18.2% of the total; foreign portfolio investment­s QR93.3bn or 13.79%, foreign other investment­s QR455.9bn or 67.4% and financial derivative­s QR4.1bn or about 1%, MDPS said in its foreign investment survey.

In the case of inward FDI, it consistent­ly fell from QR131.7bn in Q1, to QR131.4bn in Q2, QR130.9bn in Q3 and QR129.3bn in Q4, 2017.

Similarly, foreign other investment­s were QR524.9bn in Q1, QR487.6bn in Q2, QR425.1bn in Q3 and QR424.7bn in Q4, 2017.

Of the total QR402.5bn outward foreign investment­s, as much as QR146bn or 36.27% were FDI; 37.1bn or 9.22% was foreign portfolio investment­s; QR218.9bn or 54.39% foreign other investment­s; and a marginal QR0.5bn of foreign derivative­s.

The country’s outward FDI stood at QR145.4bn in Q1, 2017, which then increased to QR147.6bn in the second quarter (Q2) and further to QR149.7bn in the third quarter (Q3), after which it fell to QR145.2bn in the fourth quarter of 2017.

In the case of foreign other investment­s, it was QR249.5bn in the first quarter of 2017, QR232.7bn in Q2, QR202.1bn in Q3 and QR218.2bn in the last quarter of 2017.
