Qatar Chamber meets delegation from Turkish state of Siirt
Qatar Chamber held a meeting yesterday with a trade delegation from the Turkish state of Siirt, who are on a visit to Doha under the chairmanship of the governor of the state, Ali fuat Atik, to discuss the development of trade relations between businessmen from both the countries.
During the meeting, Mohamed bin Ahmed al-Obaidli, a board member of Qatar Chamber, praised the growing trade relations between Qatari businessmen and their counterparts in Turkey, pointing out that the number of Turkish companies operating in the Qatari market is estimated at 330 companies, which are focused on contracting, infrastructure, construction and electrical works, and the volume of projects implemented by Turkish companies in Doha is about $11.6bn.
Al-Obaidli added that the trade exchange between Qatar and Turkey, which reached about $1.3bn last year, reflects the desire of the private sector in the two countries to work together in the light of agreements and memorandums of understanding signed between the two sides, which aimed at developing economic relations and boosting trade relations between the two countries.
He also reviewed Qatar Chamber’s efforts in developing trade ties between the two sides, which hosted a number of Turkish delegations and organised a visit for Qatari businessmen to the cities of Izmir and Istanbul, in order to encourage businessmen in the two countries to enter into long-term partnerships and alliances, and to attract investors to prominent economic sectors and to introduce regulations and laws relating to foreign investment.
For his part, Atik explained that Siirt offers investment opportunities in tourism, food products and other many such areas which will enable Qatari businessmen to form partnerships and alliances with their counterparts, in light of Turkey’s potential. He also expressed the special interest of businessmen in Siirt to explore the investment opportunities available in Qatar.
