2,910 new companies registered in Qatar in October, says MCI
As many as 2,910 new companies were registered in Qatar in October, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) has said in a statement. Limited liability companies accounted for 62% of new commercial firms followed by limited liability companies (in the category of single-person owned firms) at 29%, while 8% of new companies were registered in the category of “Individual Corporations”. Contracting companies topped the list of most common activities in October, with 453 “commercial records” issued in this category.
As many as 206 commercial records were issued for “cleaning service companies” while 167 records were issued for construction material trading companies. Restaurants, cafeterias and ice cream shops followed (166 records) while 160 records were issued for public trading companies.
The report showed a total of 8,909 commercial licenses were issued, amended or renewed in the country October. A total of 250 companies closed down in October, which represented 8.6% of newly registered companies. Regarding “write-off ” activities, contracting companies topped the list at 29%, followed by electrical appliances and electronics trading companies at 23%. Construction material trading companies followed in third place at 22% while public trading companies came fourth (16%). Some 143 violations were registered for non-compliance of laws and regulations governing commercial activities.
The report indicated that the total number of transactions in October at the ministry’s branches reached 41,479.
In the area of intellectual property rights, the ministry said some 47 new patent applications were issued in October while 197 patent applications got renewed last month. In addition, some 23 trademarks were registered in October, while 34 certificates were issued in the field of copyright and related rights. Three seizures were also carried out by officers of the Intellectual Property Department during October.
