2,910 new com­pa­nies reg­is­tered in Qatar in Oc­to­ber, says MCI

As many as 2,910 new com­pa­nies were reg­is­tered in Qatar in Oc­to­ber, the Min­istry of Com­merce and In­dus­try (MCI) has said in a state­ment. Lim­ited li­a­bil­ity com­pa­nies ac­counted for 62% of new com­mer­cial firms fol­lowed by lim­ited li­a­bil­ity com­pa­nies (in the cat­e­gory of sin­gle-per­son owned firms) at 29%, while 8% of new com­pa­nies were reg­is­tered in the cat­e­gory of “In­di­vid­ual Cor­po­ra­tions”. Con­tract­ing com­pa­nies topped the list of most com­mon ac­tiv­i­ties in Oc­to­ber, with 453 “com­mer­cial records” is­sued in this cat­e­gory.

As many as 206 com­mer­cial records were is­sued for “clean­ing ser­vice com­pa­nies” while 167 records were is­sued for con­struc­tion ma­te­rial trad­ing com­pa­nies. Restau­rants, cafe­te­rias and ice cream shops fol­lowed (166 records) while 160 records were is­sued for pub­lic trad­ing com­pa­nies.

The re­port showed a to­tal of 8,909 com­mer­cial li­censes were is­sued, amended or re­newed in the coun­try Oc­to­ber. A to­tal of 250 com­pa­nies closed down in Oc­to­ber, which rep­re­sented 8.6% of newly reg­is­tered com­pa­nies. Re­gard­ing “write-off ” ac­tiv­i­ties, con­tract­ing com­pa­nies topped the list at 29%, fol­lowed by elec­tri­cal ap­pli­ances and elec­tron­ics trad­ing com­pa­nies at 23%. Con­struc­tion ma­te­rial trad­ing com­pa­nies fol­lowed in third place at 22% while pub­lic trad­ing com­pa­nies came fourth (16%). Some 143 vi­o­la­tions were reg­is­tered for non-com­pli­ance of laws and reg­u­la­tions gov­ern­ing com­mer­cial ac­tiv­i­ties.

The re­port in­di­cated that the to­tal num­ber of trans­ac­tions in Oc­to­ber at the min­istry’s branches reached 41,479.

In the area of in­tel­lec­tual prop­erty rights, the min­istry said some 47 new patent ap­pli­ca­tions were is­sued in Oc­to­ber while 197 patent ap­pli­ca­tions got re­newed last month. In ad­di­tion, some 23 trade­marks were reg­is­tered in Oc­to­ber, while 34 cer­tifi­cates were is­sued in the field of copy­right and re­lated rights. Three seizures were also car­ried out by of­fi­cers of the In­tel­lec­tual Prop­erty Depart­ment dur­ing Oc­to­ber.
