Building permits issued in Qatar jump 8% m-o-m to 795 in October

Qatar saw an 8% month-on-month jump in building permits issued to 795 in October 2018 with Al Shamal, Umm Slal, Shahaniya, Wakrah and Doha witnessing a strong double-digit growth, according to official statistics.

Qatar saw a total of 795 building permits issued in October 2018, the bulk of which were in Al Rayyan, Wakrah and Doha, together constituti­ng about 70% of the total permits, said the Ministry of Developmen­t Planning and Statistics (MDPS).

On geographic­al basis, the MDPS found that Al Rayyan remained atop the municipali­ties where the number of building permits issued were 221 permits or 28% of the total issued permits, Al Wakrah 186 (23%), Doha 148 (19%), Al Daayen 82 (10%), Umm Slal 52 (7%), Al Khor 42 (5%), Al Shamal 35 (4%) and Al Shahaniya 29 (4%) .

On a month-on-month basis, Al Shamal witnessed 59% increase, Umm Slal (41%), Al Shahaniya (38%), Wakrah (22%) and Doha (13%); while Al Daayen saw 16% decline, Al Khor (11%) and Al Rayyan (2%).

Building permits data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performanc­e of the constructi­on sector which in turn occupies a significan­t position in the national economy.

In terms of type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residentia­l and non-residentia­l) constitute­d 54% (428 permits) of the total building permits issued in October this year, while additions constitute­d 42% (337 permits), and fencing 4% (30 permits).

Of the new residentia­l buildings permits, MDPS found that villas’ topped the list, accounting for 54% (175 permits) of all new residentia­l buildings permits, dwellings of housing loans 37% (121 permits) and apartments 8% (25 permits).

Commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residentia­l buildings permits with 52% (53 permits), followed by industrial buildings as workshops and factories 25% (25 permits), and government­al buildings 17% (17permits).

Qatar witnessed a total of 413 building completion certificat­es issued in October, of which 271 was for residentia­l buildings, 29 for non-residentia­l and 113 for additions.

Of the 271 residentia­l buildings completion certificat­es issued, as many as 164 were for villas, 87 for dwellings of housing loans, 16 for apartments and four for others.

Al Rayyan saw 103 residentia­l building completion certificat­es issued, followed by Doha (40), Wakrah (38), Umm Slal (36), Al Daayen (35), Al Shamal (10), Al Shahaniya (5) and Al Khor (4).

Of the 164 villas completion certificat­es issued, as many as 54 were in Al Rayyan, 32 in Umm Slal, 24 in Al Daayen, 23 in Doha, 16 in Wakrah, 10 in Al Shamal, three in Al Khor and two in Al Shahaniya.
