Al-Kaabi leads Qatar’s last del­e­ga­tion to Opec meet­ing

Minister of State for En­ergy Af­fairs HE Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi led Qatar’s last del­e­ga­tion to the meet­ings of the Or­gan­i­sa­tion of the Petroleum Ex­port­ing Coun­tries (Opec), in the af­ter­math of Qatar with­draw­ing its mem­ber­ship in the or­gan­i­sa­tion from 2019. He took part in the 175th meet­ing of the Opec min­is­te­rial con­fer­ence, which was held in Vienna on Thurs­day to dis­cuss a num­ber of de­vel­op­ments re­lated to the oil mar­kets and pro­duc­tion lev­els. Al-Kaabi held a se­ries of talks with Opec oil min­is­ters on the side­lines of the meet. He had dis­cus­sions with Kuwait’s oil minister Bakheet al-Rasheedi, Oman’s Muhamad bin Ha­mad al-Rumhi, Iraq’s Thamer al-Ghad­ban, Iran’s Bi­jan Zan­ganeh, and Malaysia’s econ­omy minister Mo­hamed Azmin Ali. Dis­cus­sions dur­ing the meet­ings cov­ered bi­lat­eral ties and co-op­er­a­tion in the field of en­ergy, as well as the chal­lenges fac­ing the oil in­dus­try in gen­eral and Opec in par­tic­u­lar. He also held a meet­ing with the sec­re­tary-gen­eral of the Opec Muhamad Barkindo, dur­ing which he dis­cussed Qatar’s de­ci­sion to with­draw its mem­ber­ship of the or­gan­i­sa­tion.
