Team In­dia win QGL Ryder Cup golf tour­na­ment

Team In­dia sur­vived some anx­ious mo­ments be­fore they beat Team World to win the 7th edi­tion of QGL Ryder Cup golf tour­na­ment or­gan­ised by Qatar Golf Lovers at the Doha Golf Club. Team World were lead­ing 5-4, but team In­dia pulled it back to win next three matches and seal the con­test 7-5. The event was spon­sored by Sal Con­tract­ing & Trad­ing Com­pany.

In­dian am­bas­sador P Ku­maran was the cap­tain of Team In­dia, while Clark White led the World Team which con­sisted of golfers from Canada, United States, United King­dom, Aus­tralia, New Zealand, France and Den­mark. 48 golfers played 12 matches on a two-man scram­ble for­mat for the 12 points up for grabs.

Ku­maran team­ing up with Arnab Jain led from the front scor­ing the ‘best nett score’ and were de­clared ‘best In­dian team’ while David Brazeau and Steve Har­ris won the ‘best World team’ prize.

The prizes were also awarded to Uzma Mir for ‘long­est drive’ (ladies), Ku­maran (‘long­est drive’ men), Andrea Smil­sky (‘long­est putt’ ladies), Tony Si­b­ley the (long­est putt men), Keera Buchanan the (‘clos­est to pin’) and Ann MacKay the (’clos­est to rope’). Other win­ners were: Clark White (‘clos­est to pole in bunker’), Naeem Nanji (‘clos­est to pin on sec­ond shot’) and An­dreas Bork (‘clos­est to pole’).
