Team India win QGL Ryder Cup golf tournament
Team India survived some anxious moments before they beat Team World to win the 7th edition of QGL Ryder Cup golf tournament organised by Qatar Golf Lovers at the Doha Golf Club. Team World were leading 5-4, but team India pulled it back to win next three matches and seal the contest 7-5. The event was sponsored by Sal Contracting & Trading Company.
Indian ambassador P Kumaran was the captain of Team India, while Clark White led the World Team which consisted of golfers from Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, France and Denmark. 48 golfers played 12 matches on a two-man scramble format for the 12 points up for grabs.
Kumaran teaming up with Arnab Jain led from the front scoring the ‘best nett score’ and were declared ‘best Indian team’ while David Brazeau and Steve Harris won the ‘best World team’ prize.
The prizes were also awarded to Uzma Mir for ‘longest drive’ (ladies), Kumaran (‘longest drive’ men), Andrea Smilsky (‘longest putt’ ladies), Tony Sibley the (longest putt men), Keera Buchanan the (‘closest to pin’) and Ann MacKay the (’closest to rope’). Other winners were: Clark White (‘closest to pole in bunker’), Naeem Nanji (‘closest to pin on second shot’) and Andreas Bork (‘closest to pole’).
