Qatar’s Saeed al-Sulaiti has won both races in the opening round of the Qatar Superstock 600 season at Losail International Circuit.

In the first race, al-Sulaiti, who won the Superpole on Friday, managed to take the lead after the first lap and stayed clear of the pack until the end of the race, crossing the checkered flag 30.581 seconds ahead of Mishal al-Naimi.

Al-Naimi finished in second ahead of Hungarian rider Balint Kovacs, while Abdullah al-Qubaisi, who crashed during the third lap in turn 10, managed to rejoin the race and finished in sixth place.

In the second race of the round, al-Sulaiti had to restart from the back of the grid due to a crash but still managed to finish first, ahead of second-placed al-Qubaisi and third-placed al-Naimi.

“I am really happy to start the season with a double win. In the first race, I managed to have a good gap with the group behind so I decided not to push too much and stay in the front and finish the race,” said al-Sulaiti.

“In the second race, I didn’t have too much grip and crashed. I hurt my toe and came back to the pit to fix my bike. Many thanks to the LCSC mechanics who did a great job in a short time and I could start,” he added.

In the Qatar Supertock Trophy, Sheikh Jassim al-Thani won both races. Kuwaiti riders Mohamed al-Zaidan and Ali Abdulhussain ended second and third respectively in the first race, while in the second race Qatar’s Hassan al-Mansouri was third. “Overall I had a great weekend,” said Sheikh Jassim.

“My preparation in the offseason paid off,” he added. Kuwaiti rider Mohamed alZaidan was also very happy with his performance.

“The results were very good for me. I tried to finish first in the last race but I was unwell. But overall I am happy,” said alZaidan.

Trophies were presented by ambassador of Kuwait Hafeez Mohamed al-Ajmi, Adviser to the Minister of Sports Abdulrahman Musallam al-Dosari and Khalid al-Remaihi, LCSC Vice President and General Manager. The second round of Qatar Superstock Championship will be held on December 14 and 15.
