-

Fourteen physicians have joined Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Bone and Joint Center after successfully completing their residency training programmes.

The physicians, who completed programmes in orthopaedic surgery, foot and ankle surgery, and spine surgery, were recognised during a ceremony at Wyndham Grand Regency Hotel recently.

Dr Abdullatif al-Khal, HMC’s deputy chief medical officer and director of Medical Education, and Dr Yousuf al-Maslamani, medical director at Hamad General Hospital, attended the ceremony, which included a keynote speech from Dr Mohamed al-Ateeq, director of the Bone and Joint Center.

Dr al-Ateeq, who is also the chairman of HMC’s orthopaedic department, noted that HMC’s orthopaedic residency programme allows young doctors to train alongside leaders in orthopaedic surgery, gaining knowledge and experience through tutorials in the clinic and the operating theatre.

“We are delighted to graduate this new group of resident physicians who have the knowledge and clinical and surgical skills required to practice at the highest possible level of competence. These graduates have completed excellent training programmes and have demonstrated they have the capacity and capabilities to become leaders in orthopaedics and rehabilitation research, education, and patient care,” said Dr al-Ateeq.

Dr al-Khal praised the efforts of the new graduates, complimenting their clinical skills and dedication to patient care. He called HMC’s residency programmes an important investment in Qatar’s future and said residency training is a vital step in a physician’s progression to practice.

He noted that HMC’s orthopaedics residency programme is providing the next generation of physicians with the training and education needed to deliver the very best patient care.

“Residencies help prepare physicians for productive careers in medicine. HMC’s residency and fellowship programmes play an essential role in providing Qatar’s next generation of physicians with the training and education they need to deliver the very best care. HMC is a premier teaching hospital which has been recognised internationally for a commitment to high-quality medical education. Our programmes meet internationally benchmarked standards,” said Dr al-Khal.

Dr Manaf Younis, who spoke on behalf of the graduating physicians, thanked both HMC and the Orthopaedics Department for their commitment to medical education and specifically the development of residency programmes that provide new doctors with supervised practice in an environment conducive to learning highly specialised skills.
