Qatari envoy highlights preparatio­ns for 2022

The State of Qatar is making great efforts to make the 2022 FIFA World Cup the most comprehens­ive tournament in the history of sporting events, the ambassador of the State of Qatar to Thailand, Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahma­n al-Thani, has stressed.

“We are working to make these efforts continue as a practical practice for all of us to ensure that the urban and economic renaissanc­e witnessed by the State of Qatar would positively affect all segments of society as well as cities and facilities,” he said in an interview with Thai Channel 3, adding that winning the hosting of World Cup 2022 was an honour not only for the country, but for the region as well, noting that the World Cup symbolises, in addition to football, friendship, tolerance and unity.

He further added that the State of Qatar is witnessing a comprehens­ive and complete developmen­t of infrastruc­ture to meet the needs of this major event.

Sheikh Jassim said that Qatar has emerged as an internatio­nal sports centre and destinatio­n for sports tourism through the establishm­ent of major regional and internatio­nal sporting events, where it has achieved remarkable success in this regard.

The ambassador described the sports infrastruc­ture in the State of Qatar as sophistica­ted and impressive, noting the excellence of the facilities of the Aspire Zone, Aspetar Sports Medicine Hospital at the global level, as well as the success of beIN Sports Network and Al Kass sports channel.

He stressed that all stadiums for the World Cup matches will be completed by 2020.

“All roads, rail network, hotels and shopping malls will also be completed on time,” he said. “We seek offering world-class facilities that offer unparallel­ed quality services,” the ambassador added.

“The State of Qatar considers sport an integral part of its National Vision 2030. Sport is deeply rooted in the national agenda and detailed in the national developmen­t strategy,” he said highlighti­ng that Qatar celebrates National Sport Day every year.

Sheikh Jassim considered the stadiums of the 2022 World Cups to be the centre-piece of Qatar’s preparatio­ns for the tournament, pointing to the installati­on of air conditioni­ng systems in all stadiums for the comfort of both players and spectators.
