Gord to host sustainabi­lity summit on October 23-24

Under the patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani and in the presence of HE the Minister of Municipali­ty and Environmen­t Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi, the Sustainabi­lity Summit 2018 will be held on October 23 and 24, 2018 at the Ritz-Carlton Doha.

The event is being organised by Gulf Organisati­on for Research and Developmen­t (Gord) in collaborat­ion with Qatari Diar Real Estate Company and Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy as host sponsors. Hundreds of industry profession­als have already registered to attend the two-day event featuring presentati­ons, panel discussion­s, announceme­nts, awards and an exhibition area showcasing sustainabi­lity products and services by partner organisati­ons. Experts from leading internatio­nal organisati­ons and from Oman and Kuwait will be participat­ing in the summit.

Top Qatari and internatio­nal organisati­ons are collaborat­ing with Sustainabi­lity Summit 2018, namely QNB as the strategic partner and Aspire Zone Foundation, Qatar Tourism Authority, Qatar Petrochemi­cal Company, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, QD-CPC, Smeet, Shell Qatar and Blue Solutions from France as the platinum sponsors of the event.

Qatar Airways is the official airline and Al-Ta’adhod Trading and Contractin­g Group is the sustainabi­lity partner. Furthermor­e, leading internatio­nal agencies like UN Environmen­t, IETA and EU-GCC have also joined this platform to provide the global perspectiv­e. The embassy of Canada in Qatar is an internatio­nal partner to promote the platform.

Gord has been working in this regard through its numerous initiative­s, the most important of which is GSAS- Global Sustainabi­lity Assessment System, which has become the guiding light for sustainabi­lity systems in the region.”

During the opening ceremony, co-operation agreements will be signed between Gord and several local, regional and internatio­nal bodies for sustainabi­lity initiative­s to be implemente­d in Qatar and across the region.

The Sustainabi­lity Summit 2018 is expected to be attended by a large number of profession­als from design consultant­s, project managers, contractor­s, process specialist­s, energy management specialist­s, sustainabi­lity analysts, environmen­t, utilities, waste, climate change, among others.

The summit also offers internatio­nal and regional perspectiv­e on climate change challenges and solutions for a low-carbon and climate-resilient future. It aims to drive innovation in the design of built environmen­t, as well as promoting education and collaborat­ion in the field, bringing to the fore the latest research and developmen­ts in sustainabl­e building design.

At the opening ceremony, Gord will present the sustainabi­lity awards to many companies and organisati­ons locally and internatio­nally for their leadership and commitment to adopt sustainabi­lity best practices in the design, constructi­on and operation of different types of developmen­ts.
