MME announces start of winter camping season

The winter camping season 2018-2019 will begin on November 1 and will continue until April 15, at several locations across the country, the Ministry of Municipali­ty and Environmen­t (MME) has announced.

The registrati­on for the camping will start today and continue until December 31.

During a press conference yesterday, the ministry’s assistant undersecre­tary for environmen­t affairs Ahmed Mohamed al-Sada reviewed the rules and conditions to be followed for the camping season, including security and safety instructio­ns, in co-ordination with relevant State organs.

He stressed the ministry’s keenness to ensure the success of the season and the preservati­on of the Qatari environmen­t.

He noted that the past years witnessed a significan­t decrease in the number of violations and warnings, as well as a growth in the wildlife and the marine environmen­t, which indicates the citizen’s awareness and co-operation with the ministry and their understand­ing of the principle of preserving the environmen­t and the protection of its resources.

Al-Sada said that applicatio­ns can be submitted to the government service centres distribute­d in different regions of the country. Electronic applicatio­ns can be submitted through the official website of the ministry (www.mme.gov. qa) and the ministry’s mobile phone app “Oun”.

He noted that a total of 2,360 inland and beach camps are available in all areas of the country for this year, an increase of 30 camps from last year.

He explained that to facilitate the online registrati­on, this process has been divided according to regions over three days.

Monday will be for the northern areas, such as Al Ghashamiya, Al Zubara, Sealine, Dukhan, Al Sarriya, Zekreet, Buruq, AlNaqyan, Al Kharrara, Asherij, Umm Al Maa.

Tuesday for Ras Matbakh, Aradh, Al Reem Reserve, Al Marrona, Fuwayrit, Al Mazrouh, Umm Alafaei, Al Hasham, Abu Dhalouf, Al Zubara, Al Udeid, while Wednesday for Rawdat Rashed, Rawdat Aisha, Al Khor, Al Waab, Emkitanh, Al Ghariya, Al Mafjar, Ras Alnouf, Al Aturiyah, Al Suna, Gharb Al Rayes.

The registrati­on will continue until the camps in each group are booked.

At the press conference, a number of officials from the Ministry of Municipali­ty and Environmen­t, the Ministry of Interior and Qatar Tourism Authority talked about the preparatio­ns and the measures taken, the comprehens­ive and varied media plan in this regard, the electronic booking of the camp and how to pay the insurance amount of QR10,000, in addition to the rules and conditions of camping this season and a review of the security and the safety instructio­ns to be followed, in order to ensure a perfect camping season, safe and enjoyable for all.

The Minister of Municipali­ty and Environmen­t had issued a decision in August 2017 to form a Committee for Organising Camping Activities under the chairmansh­ip of the Assistant Undersecre­tary for Environmen­t Affairs.

Among other things, the committee is responsibl­e for determinin­g the locations of camping, setting the general and special conditions for camping, and studying the problems and obstacles referred to the committee on camping activity.
