Public Prosecution launches QC initiative

-

The Public Prosecution announced yesterday an initiative launched by Qatar Charity (QC) to settle some debtors’ cases (cheques without balance), through paying these amounts and depositing them in the treasury of the Public Prosecution to finalise the settlement procedures and then release the debtors.

At a press conference held yesterday to announce this initiative, the first general lawyer Hadi Misfer al-Hajri explained that the selection of these cases comes in accordance with specific criteria set by QC, including social and financial research.

He added that after the payment of these amounts to the treasury of the Public Prosecution, the Execution of Judgments will immediately issue orders to stop the implementation of the penalties imposed, finalise the settlement procedures and handing over the amounts owed.

Hadi Misfer al-Hajri pointed out that the Execution of Judgments will receive the amounts allocated from QC for the debtors according to specific criteria and will be paid by specific mechanisms.

He stressed that the role of the prosecution is limited to the activation and implementation of the provisions of the law, adding that immediately after the payment of the owned amount, the prosecution will order to stop the penalty imposed, the finalisation of the settlement procedures, lifting of the travel ban on the convicted person, and the prosecution treasury will pay the money to the victims, both parties or individuals.

Chief Prosecutor for Execution of Judgments in the Public Prosecution, Turki Rashid al-Muhannadi, said that the prosecution in such cases provides the donors with all the data of the convicted persons regardless of the nationality or the amount owed and that the donor is the one who chooses cases according to the mechanisms in force.

Al-Muhannadi praised the close co-operation between the Public Prosecution and QC and the humanitarian role QC plays inside and outside Qatar.

He called on organisations and individuals working in Qatar to participate in such valuable initiatives.

Chief Executive Officer of QC, Yousef Ahmed al-Kuwari, expressed happiness with the continuous and constructive co-operation between QC and Public Prosecution, especially in the area of alleviation the burden of the debtors, stressing that domestic work is one of the most important pillars of QC and the foundations of its work.

He pointed out that the number has not been determined so far, as well as the amount allocated, especially that there are a lot of individuals and institutions who continuously donate to the debtors.

He added that QC launched a similar initiative last Ramadan.
